Maybe there will be a podcast put up, but I woke up to catch the tailend of a conversation about that bill that would allow guns on campus.

Wish I could have heard the whole thing. I called and got through, but the phone screener said "we are not taking anymore gun calls" then he hung up on me before I could get a word in. It was hard to listen to people tell misunderstandings about gun laws in Michigan.

One person said "CPL has been around for 2 years". Another person said you can't carry at any kind of schoolAT ALL", and I may have been grogy from just waking up, but I swore I heard a person say "you need to have a license to carry".

I texted them saying "Open carry is legal in Michigan without a license", but they did not reference it. At least there was a guy who refered to himself as a LEO (a SRGT at that) saying that he "supports thisbill (allowing campus carry)100%"!

Someone did call in and say that open carry was completely legal and was up on the laws regarding it. I wondered if it was someone from here. nf fact I was going to start a thread to ask, but you beat me to it :p

I sent in a instant message, but it didn't get read :(

Wish I wouldn't have missed that. Hopefully they will upload the podcast. It was MORNINGS WITH JAY & BILL by the way.

Do you remember what the person saying OC was legal said specifically? What was the talk show host(s) response to that?

Hate to say it, but in Michigan you HAVE to have a license to carry a handgun.

Either a concealed carry or a "Permit to purchase, transport, carry, possess"

Long guns don't require licensing, however.

Yeah, but the way he worded it, it sounded like he meant a CPL. Like I said I was groggy.

Is a registration the same as a license? I have a registration for a individual car, but a license allows me to drive any car, mine, a rental, a friends...etc

The Purchase permit needed for non-CPL holders is considered a "license" by the state.

JBlack44, laws are NOT logical very often. You need to stop using logic to try to analyze laws and what they mean.

I was in on that discussion oh air this morning. I think Dougwg was on there too before me unless that was another Doug from westland.

I was the guy who stated there should be no where in the state where you can't defend yourself, the bill is just bringing colleges and universities in line with preemption, and that their opinions, thoughts, feelings on the topic didn't matter because it was a state right in the Michigan Constitution.

My comments were a little shaky in the beginning, but I think I finished off strong. When I told them their opinions didn't matter when it came to rights they hung up on me.

I was Chris from Chesterfield...also known as Kohn from chesterfield on 97.1.

Also get ready for the 2 PM show with Valenti and Foster.

I'm sure they will discuss this and Mike Valenti is a commie who I have heard on the air before say all guns should be banned and called for mandatory breathalizers in all vehicles.

I've never liked Bill's take on topics. He is VERY close-minded! If someone calls in argueing the opposite side of a topic, he never lets them get a word in.

Yeah, Bill McCallister drives me nuts with his closed mindedness too, but this was Karsch and Anderson. They were both knocking the bill.

I also told them we need to stop adjusting to suit the lowest common denominators in this country, and that their fears were entrenched in the already illegal activities blockheads carrying firearms while drinking and parting on campus would do if this passed, but I think my statements fell on deaf ears,

On Jay and Bill this morning they were discussing this bill that would allow students to carry on college campuses. I'm assuming if this bill is passed, I still have to convince my school to allow me to carry there. Am I correct?

Talked with a state rep yesterday and this campus bill is being reworked. They are working with college representatives, so I'm sure it will be gutted and compromised to death.

I hope it doesn't end up compromising any aspects of the preemption we already have. :uhoh:

As I said before, email your reps. Do it now, and don't be shy.
