From VCDL:
VA-ALERT: Protesting the "Bloomberg 7" in Virginia
HISTORY

Disgracefully we have 7 mayors in Virginia that are part of New York
City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun coalition.

These mayors claim they are members because the coalition's goal is to
keep criminals from getting guns, but, we know better.

In fact many mayors have left that coalition as soon as they realized
that the Coalition wasn't about keeping guns out of the hands of
criminals, but keeping guns out of everyone else's hands, too.

The coalition wants to close the non-existent "gun show loophole."
What the coalition really wants is ALL gun sales, including private
sales, to be registered with the government. That way the government
will know exactly what guns you have, making confiscation easier.

The coalition's proposed changes to the law regulating gun shows would
greatly burden gun shows and cause many to close (Bloomberg, I'm sure,
salivates at that thought).

The coalition also wants to repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, that would
allow anti-gun mayors to get raw ATF trace data. That data, which
includes data on guns that were NOT used in crimes, would be twisted
and used as an excuse to sue manufacturers, dealers, and distributors,
with the aim of destroying their businesses.

I have yet to see a gun control proposal that Bloomberg doesn't like
and the gun control coming out of the coalition will be endless.

TIME FOR ACTION - Falls Church and Norfolk, here we come!

VCDL has decided to protest each of the seven mayors from Virginia
that are part of this unholy coalition.

I will do this by addressing each mayor at one of their City Council
meetings over the next few months.

And VCDL needs YOU to stand with to show support (and speak, too, if
you so choose).

We are going to begin with two mayors next week:

Falls Church
Mayor Robin Gardner
Monday, October 26th, at 7:30 PM
http://www.fallschurchva.gov/Content/Government/Council/Meetings.aspx?cnlid=276

and

Norfolk
Mayor Paul D. Fraim
Tuesday, October 27th, at 7:00 PM
http://www.norfolk.gov/City_Hall/ContactInfoCC.asp
http://www.norfolk.gov/City_Hall/ContactInfoCC.asp

I plan on being at each City Council meeting at least 1/2 hour early
to get signed up to speak and to handout "Guns Save Lives" stickers to
everyone showing up to support VCDL.

Falls Church and Norfolk gun owners - come stand with us!
Anybody needing a ride, let me know. I've got 3 seats unless someone wants to ride on someone else's lap.

Figure 2.5 hours from northside (Parham & I-95)Richmond to Falls Church - leave about 4:30 PM.

Figure 2 hours from southside (Jeff Davis & Chippenham) Richmond to Norfolk - leave about 4:45 PM.

Bring CDs if you don't want me to play with the radio.;)

stay safe.

I'm down for the Norfolk meeting. I live in the Ward's Corner area.

Are we planning on meeting up some place first and then heading down?

I'm also going to take a stab in the dark and guess that OC is the preferred mode of carry for this event? :p

My guess is we all meet in the courtyard outside the door where they allow us to go in. VCDL will be there handing out GSL stickers unless I miss my other guess.

My escort and I will be pounding on the locked handicapped access doors outside the handicapped parking areauntil someone walks down the length of the first floor to let us in.

stay safe.

Only if they're locked from the inside. If someone needs to get out, they can.

I supposed he could have said "Latched" instead of "Locked".

I believe they were locked and chained the last time I was there.

Also there is the question of handicapped accessibility - having the door is no good unless it can be so utilized - there is no stipulation that one must beg for admittance.

Oops - sorry I forgot - this is Norfolk we're talking about.

Well, that is most definitely illegal then, without question.

Particularly to a public facility. Ponderous.

One thing that concerns me is that the Falls Church council chambers are physically the same room as the Falls Church General District Court. I'm worried that someone will be hassled for carrying in a courthouse.

The City of Falls Church General District Court is in session only when there is a judge present. There is a clerk's office but that is located in a different part of the building which one need not enter in order to get to Council Chambers (except for handicapped, but the only way in if you're in a wheelchair is from the lower level, and up the elevator). As a practical matter, the judges of the Seventeenth Judicial District, Arlington and Falls Church, sit in the courthouse in Arlington.

There are metal detectors, because that space sometimes is a "courthouse", but I doubt if they will be in use.

My address to Norfolk City Council, 3 minute speech:

Mayor Fraim's support to the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) is the reason for my address.

MAIG supports a radical gun control plan, erroneously known as Closing the Gun Show Loophole.

That legislation should be known as the Gun Collector Criminalization Act. How you might ask? Let me explain.

The Federal Gun Control Act of 1968 has three types of persons. Gun dealers, collectors and private citizens.

Licensed collectors go through a federal firearms license application process and a federal background check. They must record all firearms acquisitions and disposals in a bound book which is the same requirement as firearms dealers.

Collectors are not permitted by federal law to conduct instant background checks because they do not have a business purpose, and the other licensed collectors that they trade with have already passed the extensive federal background check to obtain the federal firearms license.

The Gun Show Loophole legislation that MAIG supports does not recognize the Federally Licensed Collectors. With their proposed legislation there are only two types of persons Dealers and Citizens. Collectors that buy, sell or trade guns amongst themselves at gun shows would be committing criminal acts under state law even though they have a federal license.

Shame on MAIG and those that support her for supporting the Criminalization of Law Abiding Gun Collectors.

Because I believe that affiliation with MAIG is shameful, I will protest in my own way. I will open carry my relic assault rifle to all Norfolk Tourist events such as the ongoing Halloween Festival at Waterside, next years Harborfest and the Azalea Festival. I will encourage others to do the same. While the open carry ofassault riflesat these festivals may be detrimental to Norfolk tourism, I believe that exercising my First Amendment Right and exposing Mayor Fraim’s affiliation to MAIG is necessary to ensure that my children can be free from the tyranny that such anti liberty groups promote.

Thank you for your time.

Couple things. I think it could successfully be argued that if private sales at gun shows are outlawed, that collectors could still collect, they'd just have to have a background check run if they did it at a gun show. It wouldn't make them criminals if they followed the law; you seem to suggest otherwise.

I'd leave out that last part about open carrying your assault rifle, as I think it could be construed as a threat.

I'd carefully consider modifying your speech.

Mayor Fraim, you can expect me to oppose you until such time as you resign from and repudiate Mayors Against Illegal Guns and their actions to make criminals out of law-abiding collectors.

Thank you for your time.

There - fixed it for you.

stay safe.
