August 5, 2009 - Seattle, WA - Washington Ceasefire, the statewide citizen activist group dedicated to reducing gun violence, announced today its endorsement of Dow Constantine for King County Executive.

“While there are several very good candidates who support our fight for common sense gun control, we believe Mr. Constantine has the experience and commitment to help reduce the approximately 150 yearly gun deaths in the King County and the estimated $500 million in public costs associated with this neglected and preventable public health tragedy, ” said Ralph Fascitelli, Board President of Washington Ceasefire.

Several studies have shown that gun violence is in direct proportion to home gun ownership. Washington Ceasefire believes gun violence can be reduced in the King County, and encourages citizens to:

• Reconsider having guns in the home, especially if children live or play in or around the home.
• Ask neighbors if they own a gun, a require the gun is secured in a safe before letting children play in or around the home.

Washington Ceasefire believes Constantine will work with elected officials in Washington State to ban military assault weapons as well as mandate background checks on all gun purchases - including those at gun shows. Recent polls show over 80% of Washingtonians favor these mandates, but Olympia has been slow to act due to pressure from the powerful gun lobby. “Constantine is one of the few elected officials that recognizes that the bark of the gun lobby is far worse than its bite. Indeed, over 70% of gun lobby backed candidates lost in the 2006 and 2008 elections,” said Fascitelli. “Dow has the courage to stare down special interest groups for the better good of the general population and that is why Washington Ceasefire offers our endorsement for the 2009 primaries,” he said.

They are getting their numbers by polling mostly their own member base, and associate groups.

Polling King County alone to get state wide statistics is like going into a sports bar and polling the people inside as to whether they are pro or anti sports then passing it off as a "representation" of everyone. :quirky


We all know that King County is a liberal bastion, especially due to Seattle, but even then I don't believe their "80%" for a minute.

They only interviewed King, Pierce, and Snohomish county residents... aka "WA state" to those in Seattle.

I am ashamed to admit that I have had close, but extended, family involved in the highest levels of Washington Ceasefire. Had I known at the time, I would have livened up the family reunions a bit more! Those family members have long since passed on, though.

The State of Washington already has a ban on Assault Weapons. Instead of debating whether the State of Washington should implement an "Assault Weapon" ban, gun rights group should raise the issue of repealing the Assault Weapon ban.

"Assault" weapon is a fluid term meant to instill fear and shock without having a defined meaning in most uses.

Weapons experts, not to be confused with politicians, gun-grabbers, and anti's, will generally say an assault weapon is one capable of select-fire, either burst or full auto.

With that definition, there is, for all intents and purposes, already a "ban" on assault weapons in this state since even with the necessary federal hoops jumped through, no private citizen can own one under WA state law. You can't even own a semi-auto SBR in this state.

As always, the evil is in the details. And they wish to label semi-auto AR's and AK's as military style "assault weapons" based on looks rather than function.

Democratic Party gives boost to Dow Constantine in executive race

The Washington State Democratic Party is throwing its weight into the King County executive race, spending $47,000 on mailings supporting Dow Constantine and opposing Susan Hutchison, according to the party.

At the same time, an independent TV ad campaign attacking Hutchison received a $70,000 boost from the Service Employees International Union, while a business-backed group running a TV ad attacking Constantine has spent an additional $50,698.

Total independent expenditures in the race have topped $500,000, while the candidates have raised more than $1.6 million total. Constantine is leading in campaign fundraising and in support from independent expenditures.

The Democratic Party's mailings, reported to the state Public Disclosure Commission as in-kind contributions to the Constantine campaign, continue familiar themes, saying "Conservatives like what they see in Susan Hutchison," and accusing her of trying to "hide her true beliefs."

"We've said all along that she's the Republican in the race and Dow's the Democrat in the race. This has been a top priority for us all along," Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz said Friday.

Constantine, chair of the Metropolitan King County Council, is a self-professed Democrat. Hutchison, a former TV news anchor who now runs an arts and science foundation, doesn't acknowledge a tie to either party. Party labels, for the first time, aren't on ballots this year. Voters approved an initiative last year that made the office nonpartisan.

Hutchison's campaign chair, Jordan McCarren, said although Constantine has raised more money, "We were able to spend considerably more this final week on television. He managed his campaign much like he managed King County government -- inefficiently and overspending."

Constantine campaign spokesman Sandeep Kaushik took issue Saturday with McCarren's claim that Hutchison has spent more on ads. He said Constantine has spent more and lined up ads that are reaching more viewers than Hutchison.

Yea, you want to live in a state where carrying a firearm REALLY is no big deal, Alaska is it.

Washington isn't so bad on the whole in my opinion. I personally believe its the new battleground for Second Amendment Advancement in this country. Washington, more than any other state right now has the best chance to become the next universal carry state, like Vermont and Alaska. Look at all the resources we have in this state to help.

We as voters need to replace the states Governor and its senators to make that happen, but sadly, the more 2A minded people like you that leave, the less votes and voices we have to fight that battle.
