North Carolina has paroled 300 violent offenders in the past year, 27 of whom were convicted of first-degree murder. During the past year, North Carolina has paroled 27 first-degree murderers, 193 second-degree murderers, eight first-degree rapists and 72 second-degree rapists. "Most of these people are people that none of us thought would be back on the street again," said Tom Bennett, executive director of the North Carolina Victim Assistance Network. When you are looking at offenders who have committed crimes this serious, you've got to be very concerned about having these people back out on the street," Bennett said.

That kind of rediculous redundancy is painful to read. The sentence would have been much more effective and dramatic worded consicely, once.

I did NOT enjoy reading this.

But I'm glad I did...

It's better to be informed than ignorant.

The first thing I do when moving into a new city is look up the local registerd sex offenders addresses in my area. I wish they had something like this for paroled murderers too...

Don't worry, Charlotte and Durham as well as a few others, are doing their best to never let the criminals see the inside of a prison cell. It's cheaper if they just keep them on the street. But our Gov is going to "stand in the doorway" and not let some of this happen. Except she is over the department that let's this happen in the first place. So did she miss the memo that they were going to release those folks, or did the bad PR force her to act against her initial decision to release them? Regardless, I am almost constantly armed anymore.
