I've been OC everywhere for sometime now, just got used to doing it the days i work at my store and go shooting (which is most days). Been all around Summerlin and most of the valley, in and out of banks/grocery stores/gas stations/target/walmart/etc and never had any problems. Here is what happened to me in the last two days. Long read,
I took a friend to get his belongs from the car he is abandoning (a whole other story) at XXX towing in NLV. We park and I stand back while he approaches the window. He does his paperwork and they escort him into the office to walk him to the yard. The women at the window asks the next guys in line what they need and then looks and me and points "Especially you, what do you need, why are you here". Explained i drove the guy who just went in. She went on to help the other gentlemen while i stood out of the way and waiting for my friend. Next thing i know a guy (kid really) comes out and gets just shy of my "fight zone" and asks if i'm with the police. I nicely explain i am not and that i had drivven a friend who was in the yard getting his belongings. "OK well so you know the cops are on there way". to which i reply "Ok". Having not been asked to leave i wasn't going to make it look like i was fleeing the location just to be felony stopped.
He goes back inside and all you hear are these women who think they have power cause they run a tow yard window yelling at the poor guy about how they aren't comfortable with me being there with a gun blah blah. Few minutes later he comes out and says "i called the cops" "ok" they said i should ask you to leave cause your scaring the girls". (Applause to NLVPD!!!!) Not a problem i'll leave. Can i either wait till my friend finishing getting his property or can i come back when he is done?" "Sure when he is done i'll come back out while you load his stuff". I drive to the street and park and call NLVPD to inform them that if they are on there way that i am legally carrying a firearm and was not fleeing the location but parked on the street as requested. "We have no call at that location".
Few minutes later my buddy calls and says the guy is standing with him and i can come back to pick him up. We load my buddies stuff and I apologize to the guy for "scaring the girls". Got into a discussion about NLVPD deadly weapons law and preemption. Then discussed his wanting to get his CCW and buy a gun for his house. Gave him my business card and he came into the store the today.
Final score:
Bi*c*es on a power trip bad. Manager OK. NLVPD good.
Then today i am headed home from my store midday and am on the 215 West after the 95 where it's 45 for no reason and a NHP is in the #1 travel lane eastbound with cars in front and beside him. We pass and i see his lights come on and he hangs a U turn on the 215 almost causing an accident and pulls in behind me. I pull over, turn the car off, and put down my passanger window and the rear passanger window so he can see my 4 year old daughter and by then he was at my window (those NHP guys are fast)
NHP: "Nevada Highway Patrol License and registration"
Me: "Yes sir but i need to let you know i am carrying a firearms before i reach for them."
NHP: "Ok where is it?"
Me: "My right hip"
NHP: (clearly nervous having looked and seen my Sig 229 OC) "Do you have a CCW?"
Me: "Yes sir"
NHP: "Let me see it"
Me: "sir it is in my wallet along with my drivers license"
NHP: "Well where is your wallet"
Me: "In my right rear pocket behind the gun"
NHP: "Well pull your shirt over your gun"
Me: "Sir i can't do that with my seat belt on"
NHP: "Well can you .... with your.... take out your wallet with your left hand slowly and keep your right hand on the steering wheel"
Me: "yes sir" I try with no luck. "Sir i tried but i can not get my wallet out with my left hand"
NHP: steps back and puts his hand on his gun "ok with your right hand SLOWLY reach for your wallet SLOWLY.
Me: "yes sir" I rotate my hips so the gun is up in the air so he can see everything and clearly see my hand is going for my wallet and not the gun. Finally i get my wallet without getting shot and hand him my DL, CCW, reg and insurance.
There were a couple of questions about why i was carrying a gun like that which i did not answer cause he cut himself off with his next attempt at instructions of how to get my wallet out.
I watch as he goes back to his cruiser and writes me a ticket and i notice there is another officer in the car he then gets out alone and approaches my window all stealth and tactical like.
NHP: Sir you were going 70 in a 45 but i did you a big favor and wrote you for 55 in a 45 and saved you $390" blah blah sign here blah blah insert lecture about speeding with children in the car. Have a nice day.
Glad i made it thru that without getting shot, he must have been training with the other officer or something cause he could barely make a sentence after i told him about my gun.
Yes i was speeding but certainly not 70, I know cause i looked as soon as his light came on. How can a NHP going in the opposite direction in the far lane surrounded by cars nail me with radar going the opposite direction?
