Pro-gun group organizes food drive at Walmart in Jackson

Michigan Open Carry Inc., a nonprofit pro-firearm organization, is conducting a nonperishable food drive at Walmart this weekend.

The organization has had several events across the state to promote the lawful carry of firearms for personal defense. Members will be lawfully open-carrying handguns while they collect donations, and a representative will be on hand to answer questions.

The food drive is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the parking lot of Walmart, 1700 W. Michigan Ave. All food collected will be donated to the Jackson Interfaith Shelter

Good job Gordon. Sorry I can't be there to help you. Let me know the total of the food drive and I can relate your efforts on our talk show.

Only heard a tidbit of the story, but Cabman told me something kind of "jaw-dropping".

First a little background info. The Walmart in Jackson is connected to the Westwood Mall which doesn't allow firearms on its property, but Walmart has it's own entrance, and no entrance acctually connects to the mall on the inside. This was a concern of mine when we first talked about holding the food drive here, but Cabman talked to the manager of Walmart that same day and found out that the parking lot in front of Walmart is leased to Walmart.

We also figured that since we were havinga FOOD DRIVE to benefit the NEEDY in JACKSON, that the mall shouldn't have a problem with it, and if they did, chances are they wouldn't put a "kabosh" on it cause it would look bad on them if that information got back to the paper.

So I just got off the phone with Cabman, and he informed me that mall security and the mall manager came over to talk to him. From what he said to me, the mall manager was shocked that Walmart would even let him out in front of their store with a gun. She also informed him that if anyone carrying steps one foot onto the mall's property, they would call the police and have them escorted off the property! :banghead:It's nice to see that people don't give a damn about helping others less fortunate than themselves (add sarcasm).

If that would have happened (escorted off the mall's property), wouldn't they be fine to just walk right on over to the Walmart property right afterwards? I would think so.

Wow they really have nothing to do over at the mall do they ... guess they should be fired as they are a waste of funds. I mean what business do they have coming over and harrassing people on WalMart property?

I OCed in front of Walmart helping Brian, Cabman, and Kimberguy with the food drive today. 2 Blackman Township cops pulled up just as Kimberguy showed up OCing his AK-47 (literally at the EXACT same moment), but the copswent inside. We assume they were there for a shoplifter. I left before the cops came back out, but on their way in Cabman said "Hello officer to one of them" and he relied "Hello. How are you doing today?".

I want to thank Cabman for all his efforts with this very successful food drive. Also the OC guys that stopped by to lend support and to help out.

I left about 4:15 PM and we had an overflowing shopping cart full of food. Same as yesterday so two very full carts of food for a homeless shelter.

Our location was great, hundreds of people drove right by us and many had to stop for people crossing the lot so they all had a great chance to read our sign. We gave away many brochures and raised some money for MOC and SAM.

Almost all good comments from the people their and Wal-Mart management had zero problems with our group.

Thanks again guys.

Brian
