Man dies, 2nd is wounded in D.C. shooting

    By Clarence Williams
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Thursday, November 12, 2009

One man died and another was in grave condition late Wednesday night after an incident in Northeast Washington that police initially thought was a car accident. Investigators soon determined that both men had been shot, possibly by a third person in the same car, who then fled.

Police officers called to the 4200 block of Meade Street, in the Deanwood area, found a dark-colored sedan that appeared to have rear-ended a white sedan. The incident, about 9 p.m., wedged the white sedan between the dark-colored vehicle and a tree in the front yard of a house adjacent to Interstate 295.

One man was taken to Washington Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead. The second was transported to another hospital, where police officers said he was in critical condition. Police officers had not positively identified either man.

Police officers said it appeared that the two men, who were in the dark-colored sedan, were shot while the car was in motion. Although officers think the shooter might also have been in the car, they could no find no sign of a third person last night.

Well it really is quite simple if you can learn to think like a DC politician. See, DC's firearms laws cannot be effective until Virginia, which is awash in guns, eliminates guns with laws identical to DC. So what if there isn't as much violence in Virginia despite all those (legal) guns? The only thing that proves is -- umm- err- uh-- well everybody knows children are safer where there aren't any guns. (harrumph) now let's talk about the - um - issue of DC Statehood. Yeah, that's the ticket---

Since EVERYONE knows there are NO guns in DC, then there must be some other explanation for these shootings. OBVIOUSLY what REALLY happened, is that there is a highly-trained sniper living in Virginia (probably in a high-rise condo in Alexandria or Rosslyn) who is shooting these people from the safety and comfort of his balcony. That would be the ONLY explanation, because we all know that there are NO guns in DC because of the effectiveness of their firearms laws...
It is our cause to dispel the foggy thinking which avoids hard decisions in the delusion that a world of conflict will somehow mysteriously resolve itself into a world of harmony, if we just don't rock the boat or irritate the forces of aggression—and this is hogwash."

Actually (and as I pointed out in my last post) DC has ALWAYS claimed their firearms laws would be effective if DC were not constantly supplied with a steady stream of guns from bad old Virginia. And nobody has honestly addressed the question of why it is that in bad ol' Virginny with al our firearms (and - gasp! - mandatory CHP issue and what is worse completely legal unlicensed open carry) we do not have this problem isbecause an honest appraisal would be so very politically incorrect. I emailed Marc Fisher of the Washington Post about this very thing and he mailed back some arglebargle about the homicide rate in inner Richmond; neatly avoiding the question of why RIGHT ACROSS THE RIVER there is not nearly as much carnage.

"when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" has long been a mantra of the 2A movement. Well, except of course for the police; but if you remember, Marion Barry allowed a bunch of CONVICTED FELONS to get past the background checks back in the 1980s and become police officers. Most of these have been removed but only after multiple embarrasing incidents of such things as cops hooking up with dope dealers to warn of raids, etc; so maybe in DC it isn't such a fine distinction after all.

No matter what the homicide rate is in Richmond (and dollars to donuts says it is lower than in DC) I would bet a week's earnings that the closure rate for all crimes is way higher in Richmond, where residents and witnesses are not so easily cowed by armed thugs dealing with defenseless sheep. But don't try to confuse DC's politicians and officials with the facts.

It cannot possibly have been a citizen-on-citizen shooting because the only people in DC who have guns are the police. Investigate the police. All the flak about guns coming from Virginia and so forth is just red-herrings.

I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

    LOL!

and.....let's not forget about those evil assault weapons (and machine guns that the DC police are issued) that can stand up on their pistol grips all by themselves and fire off cop killing rounds.

When these anti-gunpoliticians and so calledcivic leadersare forced by the people to address and attack the root causes of crime, instead of just conveniently blaming it all on guns, we'll see a significant drop in violent crime. Until then.................

    Everyone is missing the obvious.
The government fried the wrong guy, DC sniper is back in action with 3 more.

On a plus side, at least the gun laws are starting to work. The shooter used
a revolver because pistols are a no no. If they used a pistol the brass
would show the location of shooter.

How can they not identify anyone, the driver must have ID to operate a motor
vehicle, could it be the victim was also breaking the law at the time? If the shooter
was driving, he is one damn good shot to get both the others while driving.
But may have a bigger problem, by leaving the scene he committed a possible
    felony hit and run!

Where are the quotes from the other cars driver, you get rammed from the back
and you don't notice if the other cars occupants are running away?

Myself I think that the DC establishment is trying to scare away any 2A rally
by sending a message "We Don't Want Guns", and will do anything to stop you.
You can't bring your guns here, and you aren't safe without them.

They had to be Virginians 'cause Maryland don't allow guns either. Only 213 dead in Baltimore alone (so far) by those guns people don't have 'n couldn't carry if they could. Must be them Pennsylvanians in collusion. Oh... wait... Marylanders are bein' caught in the crossfire between VA and PA right-wing road ragers. Yeah... that mus' be it.

But this happened in D.C. they say. How so? No guns there except the few they know about right?
