Ok, a bit off topic for OC. But a great account of a child acting in lawful self-defense using a firearm.

DRIGGS, Idaho— An 11-year-old Idaho boy fatally shot a black bear on his family's front porch after he said it wouldn't leave.
The boy was at his home near Driggs, just west of the Idaho-Wyoming border, with his younger sisters last Wednesday when the bear showed up. He says he couldn't shoo the animal away, so he went and got a gun and shot it.
Doug Petersen, a conservation officer with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game , says the boy and his family probably won't be in any trouble, because the agency had received multiple complaints about a black bear in the area. The bear had been hanging around a transfer station and getting into garbage cans and bird feeders.
Petersen says Fish and Game doesn't usually issue citations in situations where the bear had been a problem around humans.
The agency has issued the family a permit to keep the bear's carcass.

Since it was an 11 year old boy with his younger sisters alone it is a wonder that Social Services aren't arresting the parents especially since it involved a gun. :cuss:

Perhaps it wasn't loaded until he used the training from his parents on how to retrieve from the locked gun cabinet, load aim properly and fire.

Thank god that the boy knew how to use a gun and had one available or we might have been reading about several kids killed by a bear.

Teach your kids how to shoot andabout gun safety, it's for the children!

MY friend had a BIG black-e walk right through his front screen door , "THOUGH" the closed screen , he lives way out in the high mountains of southern California.

He was back peddling up stairs with a 44mag in hand and a boat horn , one of those small air horn and blasts the air horn and the big back bear start really coming "fast" at him after he tooted the air horn while half way up the stairs.

He made the top of the stairs and jumps into his bed room.

My friend is a puss so he just runs up stairs and lock's the door and the bear wanders around his living room knocking stuff around foraging and then snacks on his hot dog in the kitchen and wanders on out the way he came in, jumps up on this Nissan pick up and breaks off one of the mirrors and disappears, lol.

How do you repel bears ? , the tourist said to the park ranger:
Ranger " walk with a couple jingle bells around your neck and carry a can a pepper spray.

How do you tell the difference between Black bear and Grizzly bear scat ? asked the same tourist:
Ranger: "Black bear scat has berries and bits of food scrap food container trash bit's in their scat, Grizzly bear scat has little jingle bells in it and it smells like pepper, lol.
