but as a quick answer... you probably can't. The Chinese have released very little data pertaining to production figures and related information. This is one of the reasons that Chinese SKS's are not C&R.

The only reason Chinese SKS rifles are not C&R is that Clinton is a ********* and Dubya really isn't really a friend of the 2A.....

don't know what C&R means, but no- it's just 5 digits. no chinese symbols either- just says made in china.

Last I heard, the last two digits indicated year of manufacture.

That may be wrong, but it's what I seem to recall.

If you could prove it was over 50 years old, that wouldn't matter.

Instead of going to another forum to perform another search, this site:

    http://www.yooperj.com/SKS-24.htm

will just straight up tell you what year your SKS was made by serial number.

C&R = Curio and Relic - a classification of firearms based on their age and/or historical significance. Different (usually more relaxed) rules apply to C&R guns.

If it's Chinese then it's a Type 56 anyway, not an SKS (That's the old Soviet designator). I brought one back from 'Nam in '72.

I bought a Chinese Type 56 (with bayonet attached) as a gift for my little brother about 17 years ago. It was $69 at the time. What do they cost now?

I got my Romanian AK (WASR 10/63) for $450 about 6 months ago.
