chinese SKS question

hey people- i just purchased a made in china sks imported to BTC S. EL MONTE , CA by norinco

it has a 5-digit serial number...how do i find out what year it was made?

thanks for the help..

but as a quick answer... you probably can't. The Chinese have released very little data pertaining to production figures and related information. This is one of the reasons that Chinese SKS's are not C&R.

don't know what C&R means, but no- it's just 5 digits. no chinese symbols either- just says made in china.

Last I heard, the last two digits indicated year of manufacture.

That may be wrong, but it's what I seem to recall.

If it's Chinese then it's a Type 56 anyway, not an SKS (That's the old Soviet designator). I brought one back from 'Nam in '72.

I bought a Chinese Type 56 (with bayonet attached) as a gift for my little brother about 17 years ago. It was $69 at the time. What do they cost now?

I got my Romanian AK (WASR 10/63) for $450 about 6 months ago.
