Long guns are not relevant to 12025. That only applies to concealable firearms.

12025. (a) A person is guilty of carrying a concealed firearm when he or she does any of the following:
(1) Carries concealed within any vehicle which is under his or her control or direction any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person.
(2) Carries concealed upon his or her person any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person.
(3) Causes to be carried concealed within any vehicle in which he or she is an occupant any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person.

So as long at the long gun is not loaded, you can walk down the street with it under your trench coat, put it under the seat of your car, whatever.

Yes, except for obstacles like 1,000 ft. school zones (which do not include colleges); youc an also open carry a loaded handgun in vehicles in unincorporated areas where the County has not banned shooting; but even then, more obstacles loom: Where are you? Unincorporated or incorporated area? Has the County banned shooting in some part of that area and are you in it?
