they have this sign posted on the door. I think it's new, or at least i didn't notice the other times i've visited. I did not ask for clarification

it reads:

I haven't noticed it in the stores in Charlotte or in Lansing. If they post it then they are going to lose alot of money. I go there almost weekly.

I think they mean, rifles and shotguns, you know if your going to be talking to an employee about it, whatextrascan Ibuy for this, or how do I take this apart, ect. I think they just don't want you walking thru their store with a shotgun or rifle in your hands, without an employee escort.

They don't all have that policy. Although certain Dunhams will do stupid things like try to get you to sign a slip of paper to buy ammo, including your DL number. Others don't try to pull that crap.

Dunhams are hit or miss. As I've said before, I wish Jays would branch of to south east Michigan and put them out of business around here.

I was at the Dick's Sporting Goods in Brighton shortly after it open several years ago. The only guns they had were a FEW shotguns, and a FEW hunting rifles. I asked the guy behind the gun counter if they had any 7.62x39 ammo. He said "we don't sell those kind of rifles or ammo". When I asked why he responded "people in this area complained about us carrying guns. Some peoplehad even COVERED THEIR KIDS EYES WITH THEIR HANDS when they walked past the guns".

OH man, Can you picture this? Someone walks into a sporting goods store and pulls out 2 guns, For someoe to chec while the cashier is handing another customer change, OH SHI T, I think that would be enough for someone to hit the all famous PANIC BUTTON. Then cops are on there way. I say if it is Concealed why do they need to know that you have it? I would just keep quite about even haveing anything on me.

I agree. What's dangerous is all the extra added gun handling they're asking for unnecessarily.

I was in Ganton Mountain store, West Saginaw, Lansing locationand they had a very similar, if not the exact, same sign on their door. I was a little surprised by this sign since they have quite a large offering of firearms they sell. Their stance is unfortunate and doesn't make sense to me. :banghead:

Simply ask where their clearing barrel is. Tell them you refuse to endanger their staff and their customers by unloading a firearm without a proper clearing barrel. ;)

Now don't get my comment confused with the scenario where you were going in to have work on (pull out) your pistol, rifle. If you're handling it that's another story but to check all at the register is quite dumb an I'd never do it (or go in if it was required). Why have a disarm at the register sign it's totally unnecessary and a pain if you wanted to make a quick purchase and leave.

I visit the Gander Mountain on Hall Road often. They have the same sign posted there. I spoke with the manager and he stated that applies to firearms being brought in to sell or for service. I was told I was welcomed to open carry and no checking of my firearm was required by the store. I walk in there regularly and nothing has ever been said.

sprinklerguy28...glad they explained their policy to you but I think clarifying their sign to read as suchwould do a lot to avoid confusion.

i think that is what those signs imply.

i remember reading somewhere(i think here) that there was a miscommunication at cabelas about that and it was later clarified.

if you are buying,selling,trading or having whatever done to a gun,you must register it,if just carrying-be it open or concealed no checking in with the store clerk to register.

i saw a guy @ gander mtn ask about that when i got my deer permits this year. and they said it only applies to what i mentioned above,and that OC and CC is exempt.

I always OC in that store, never any problems. We actually had a MOC table set up in the lobby this past summer and it went VERY well.

I am still waiting to hear back from management for the go ahead with our OC seminar in their conference room. I think I will stop in tomorrow and ask in person.

MC Sports on Drake Rd. in Kalamazoo has a similar sign and they've told me it also only applies to firearms being brought in to sell or fit holsters or that will otherwise be handled.

If it's in a holster, leave it in the holster.
