My wife and I were going to attend a 02:50 pm showing this afternoon. We had paid for our tickets and had entered the theater and given them to the ticket taker who directed us to our theater. We ran into some friends in the lobby and were standing there chatting when approached by an employee. Standing some distance from me and in a loud voice, I was told that firearms are not allowed in the theater. He told me that he was sorry for the inconveniencebut I should not have been sold a ticket or allowed to enter. I told him that I would require my money back. He gave me what I would describe as an odd look and then directed me to go to the ticket booth for my refund. Guess he thought I would just go put it in the car. When I got to the ticket booth he was telling the ticket gal to refund my tickets. She then shoved a form to me telling me that she would need my name and address. I simply told her to just give me my money which she did with no further delay.

I checked the ticket booth and the doors/windows and saw no signs anywhere stating no firearms allowed.

One of the funny things was that the couple we were talking to in the lobby were armed, CC, and had just finished watching their movie. We stood outside in front of the entrance talking with our friends for about 15 minutes without so much as a sideways look from anyone else.

I will be writing to the management of the chain to voice my complaint and will post their reply if I indeed get one.

Was he a manager or just a clerk? I don't think clerks have the authority to kick you out for anything like that. And yah definately fight this. Without a poster or anything, that's just retarded. I've carried into several theatres (red rock, sunset station) soI know it's not a uniform no gun in movies thing.

Good luck, hopefully they invite you back and comp the movie tickets for the trouble.

He was what I would call a shift manager. I think the gal that takes the tickets went and got him.

I have writen a letter to the HQ of Cinemark out of Plano TX. We will see what they say. Just for grins and giggles, here is a copy of what I am sending them.

    Cinemark USA, Inc.
    3900 Dallas Parkway, Suite 500
    Plano, TX 75093-7865

    Sirs:

Today I took my wife to a 2:50 pm showing at your theater here in Henderson NV. It was at the Cinedome 12, 851 S. Boulder Highway.

I paid for our tickets, entered thebuilding, gave our tickets to the lady and was directed to our theater. We happened to run into some friends in the lobby and were standing there chatting when one of your employees approached and from some distance loudly told me that firearms are not allowed in the theaters. I told him that I would require my money refunded. He apologized and said that according to policy I should not have been allowed to purchase a ticket or enter your building. Your employee, sorry I did not get his name, was very polite and I have no complaint about him or the fact that he was following policy except to say that he could have been a bit more tactful.

I am a law abiding 53 year old small business owner. My wife is a homemaker and we raise our family here in this community. We are both educated and have clean records. We both work to benefit local charities and are politically active. Our children are involved in church activities and Scouting. You see we are a typical all American family.

As a citizen of a state that honors the constitutions of both the state of Nevada and the United States, I openly carry a firearm everywhere I go. Your theaters are the only place I have ever been refused service for doing so. . The carrying of firearms is not uncommon here. Many people carry concealed. In fact the couple we were talking with were armed, concealed carry, and were on their way out of the theater after watching a movie. I however, as many more are beginning to do choose to carry in the open. I think you would be absolutely amazed at the number of law abiding people who attend your theaters while armed.

As I said, I carry everywhere I go, the grocery stores, restaurants, banks, Wal-Mart, Kmart, and yes other theaters.Again, your establishment is the only place that has turned away my business. In this area businesses seem to just go along with the law, as there is no prohibition against open carry. Most people pay absolutely no attention to the fact that I am armed.Occasionally it will strike up a conversation about firearms and questions about carrying for personal defense. The conversations are always positive in nature.

You have every right to set policy in your theaters, but understand that I have every right to protect myself and my family and will continue to do so. If in your establishment I am to be stripped of that right, I will not patronize your business. I know that loosing my business, maybe 6 movies a year, will not break you, but as it is getting easier to watch movies on big screens at homewhile eating cheap popcorn and soda, I would think that you would be cognizant of driving business away. You have no fear of the honest armed citizen and in fact it affords protection for your employees and patrons. You might keep in mind that when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.

I looked at your ticket booth and the windows and doors and I saw no posted signs with regard to a no firearms policy. I would like to receive a copy of your written policy with regard to this matter. I will be posting this on OpenCarry.org in order to let other firearms owners across the country know of your policy regarding the right to keep and bear arms.

I ask you to rethink your position.

    With best regards

Isn't it interesting that a business that makes it's living off flying bullets and blood splashing across the screen is bothered by my revolver? Guess they believe what they see in their own makebelieve world.

If you need me to, I'd be happy to write a letter as well. I'll wait for their reply. If they tell you they plan to uphold the no gun thing...I say as a community we let them know how much business they're going to lose because of it. With this economy (and easy availability to watch at home)I'm betting they'll reconsider

Looks like your out of luck if you want to see a movie in Reno/Sparks. They have them all, unless there's a theater that I don't know about.

And no, I'm not going to the drive-in. I'd rather not need the gun that I'm carrying. I avoid that neighborhood during daylight hours.

Just did my support. The following letter goes into the mail tomorrow:

    -----------

    Cinemark USA, Inc.
    3900 Dallas Parkway, Suite 500
    Plano, TX 75093

    Dear Sir or Madam;

I frequent a website devoted to citizens who carry weapons in public for self defense. A recent post by a patron of yours concerned me, so I am asking for your policy on carrying self-defense weapons in your theaters, both concealed and open carry.

I'm primarily concerned about being able to attend the following theaters in my area:

    Henderson - Cinedome 12 Henderson]
Las Vegas - Century 16 Suncoast
Las Vegas - Century 16 South Point
Las Vegas - Century 16 Santa Fe Station
Las Vegas - Century 18 Sams Town
Las Vegas - Century Orleans 18

If your corporate policy is to allow me to visit your theaters, I'd appreciate getting a copy that I can produce if necessary to update any of your employees who may be unaware of your position. I hope for a prompt reply so I can resume my popcorn addition.

For your reference, I'm attaching a copy of the letter the patron posted on the website and says he mailed to your office.

    Sincerely

I both emailed and mailed a hard copy to them. So far, no response. As it is closing in on a month now, I'm beginning to doubt I get a response from them.

Thanks Vegas Rick for the backup letter.

Not to high jack your thread, but the fact that your friends were carrying CCW the entire time reminds me of a story.

One of my friends owns a security company that was hired to guard Amy Grant (an 80s pop star) in a public place while she was working on a tv show. She specifically prohibited firearms for all security. Funny thing was I know at least three of us (visiting with my friend and watching the production) were always carrying concealed. The filming was in a rural area so we assumed there were would be many more armed civilians protecting her than the unarmed security she was paying for.

There is a new posting on the AZboard saying that Cinemark is nowputting upsigns in it's theater in Mesa AZ saying no concealed carry. Since I no longer go to their theaters here, I'd be curious if they are being posted here now as well. I'm not sure it would do any good as they did not answer my letter or email, but maybe a mass letter writing campaign would get them to rethink.

Why would you push the issue. Nevada is such a gun friendly state and people like you carrying a gun in the open into a theater will surely create laws against us law abiding citizens. Choose a battle worth fight for you idiot.

Oh by the way. If you hadn't loudly spoken about your gun you wouldn't have had issue. Keep on pushing the issue in a state that is pro-gun and see what happens. You'll keep pushing until the left-wing Obama lovers get their way and pass State Laws in my State that restrict us. You want a battle, take it to California and fight those left wing radical asses. Chose your battles because jack asses like you are going to ruin it for those of us law abiding citizens in Nevada. Like it or not Nevada is a gun friendly State that supports gun owners. Cut the crap and grow up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You and your friends are going to push the open carry issue in my State to the point that the State Legislators pass a law prohibiting open carry. You want to fight against a government that infringes on the People's rights? Take you a** to California. Stop f***ing with my State and screwing it up for me and my friends. You're a f***ing a**hole that is making an issue out of a non-issue. Get a f***ing CCW if you don't have one. Nevada is a good and just State for gun owners. If you don't qualify for a CCW in this State, you probably can't legally own a gun. You and your loser friends need to pick and chose your battles. You guys have way too much time on your hands.
    Texan-

Welcome to the forum! Started off trying to get on everyone's good side eh? Please lose the attitude & the language if you want to be taken seriously.

    Trying to accomplish:
    1. End police harassment of OC. See http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum36/27721.html
    2. End police harassment of those with empty holsters. See http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum36/20477.html
    3. End police harassment of CCW. See http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum36/36497.html
    4. End unlawful police confiscation of firearms. See http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum36/31436.html
    5. End registration. See http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum36/33862.html

This may be a gun friendly state, but has proven to be a gun un-friendly county. Bans on firearms in parks, the incidents above, etc. There are plenty more incidents. I hope you'll choose to join us and read through the many interesting topics on this forum, in which we discuss these incidents. There's a lot of good information & debates.

    Pushing the issue:
I don't want to push the issue to anything negative, but it's always possible my actions will have negative consequences. I have a certain belief that I seem to share with many others on this forum. We have organized and participated in get-togethers which we feel are appropriate. You obviously have different beliefs. I am an open minded person and I'm glad to consider whatever other options you may suggest. My intent is to make things better, not worse. If you think I'm going about things the wrong way, I'm all ears.

    Going to California:
No thanks. Nevada is MY state too, and I will fight against any injustices here where I feel I can make a difference. I have no fight in California.

    Issue out of non issue:
We'll just have to disagree on this point. As far as I'm concerned, police stopping a man just because he is armed is an issue. But an even bigger issue is police disarming a law abiding citizen who called police for help. Whatever the issue, I'll continue fighting until these stop. Our open carry get-together's have gone a long way in proving to myself that police can be respectful of lawfully armed citizens and have improved my trust and confidence in the department.

    Still at issue:
    1. North Las Vegas still has not removed their car carry provision from the books.
    2. North Las Vegas Police still say Open Carry is illegal, unless you have a CCW.
    3. Boulder City has not removed their loaded carry law from the books.
    4. Clark County bans firearms in parks.
    5. Las Vegas bans firearms in parks.
    6. Henderson bans firearms in parks.
    7. Clark County bans firearms in libraries.
    8. Registration.

    CCW:
I do have a CCW, which you'd know if you had read some of my other 1000 posts. And as I told the Captain of the Convention Center Area Command, I got it ONLY so that some overzealous police officer didn't try to charge me with felony concealed carry one day because he didn't like me open carrying.

I don't like asking the government for a "permit" to do something I have the right to do (be armed), and I even more dislike having to pay $100 every 5 years for it.

    Pick and choose battles:
We do. I think we are very reserved when it comes to picking battles and how we go about it.

During our meet on the strip and follow up meet on Fremont St, no one was carrying rifles, shotguns, or even "assault" pistols. Just our normal, every day carry pieces. We were all dressed like just a bunch of guys going out to enjoy a night walking around checking out the sights.

We were behaved, respectful, and of course LAWFUL. You don't have to agree with me, but I do demand your respect. I'm an American citizen with the right to do the things I do, and expect to be treated as such. I will respect you standing up for what you believe in, even if I disagree with your motives, intentions, or methods.

I hope you'll join us and discuss this and other topics in a civil manner. Cursing and name-calling won't get you very far.

I agree with pretty much all of what Tim replied to you, but will add a bit more emphasis about the need to push back against the anti-gun agendas.

Many changes to our society happen over time, incrementally. That's the strategy of the socialist movement. A little change here, a tightening there, letting law enforcement dictate where they want the line drawn, etc. Before you realize it, liberties are confined and lost. Keep enough of a low profile, and you'll find the Marxists are filling your hole with dirt.

You are right about the risk of negative reactions from some politicians and people. We each have to decide, however, where we draw our own line on liberty protections. Personally, I weigh the opposing risks and conclude that I'll oppose oppression wherever I find it and will do business with like-minded merchants.

BTW; name calling is typically practiced by those with weak arguments and those who have no effective rebuttals. Rational and stable folks tend to thus automatically discount mud slingers. Just trying to improve your skills here. On the other hand, you could just add all capitals to your style and be totally ignored.

FYI, the police deal with criminals with guns every day. From the officers I have talked to they appreciate having law abiding citizens on the streets armed with guns. That is why this state has a good CCW law on the books so those of us that legally own guns can carry them to protect ourselves and others. I carry a gun everyday, concealed, and have never had anyone target or harass me. You're just trying to create a situation so you can make a name for yourself.

You on the other hand, and your "friends", take to the streets to display your guns, and why?? Exercise your rights? You said yourself that you have a CCW. I don't understand your issues. So you have to pay for a permit every 5 years, and are only required to prove you can shoot every 5 years. Big deal. Get over it. You must have way too much free time on your hands if you are standing up against the people that are on your side.

After seeing what you have been doing I am going to urge our State Senators and Assemblymen to pass open carry laws to forbid open carry before you mess it up for those of us that are proud to be able to carry CCW to protect ourselves and our families.

    Hi Tex,

Welcome to the forum, I will try to make a couple of points. It appears that you have roots in the State of Texas, that State has some of the best gun laws in the country, along with Florida.

Both of those States are missing something of great importance to many Americans, and that something is RIGHTS.

If Your OK with what your State Gives you, fine. But you better be OK with the State being able to take it away.

Our State constitution would have to change, which would take an overwhelming vote, in order to change the direction of our Right to Bear arms, Article 1 section 11 (memory). In Texas it is not a right, it is a privilege.

Please put yourself in the right frame of mind, for this last part.

People do not go give up their life forlaws, as they can be changed, but the constitution is a different story, as millions of Brave men and women have given their lives to defend it. How then do you ridicule our group, that is trying to honor those that served, and preserve the rights they died for?

I am not trying to change your mind, but if you think it is so laughable, don't tell us guys on OCDO, take your case to ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY and tell them, and their familys, how ridicules theseRIGHTS are. peace !
