Why don't the Guardian Angels OC? Could it be because they wear a uniform? I understand that they are ordinary citizens that help patrol areas with high crime rates and can and have made citizens arrests. They are trained in basic first aid, CPR, law, conflict resolution, communication, and basic martial arts.So why not in firearm use and safety? They have chapters all over the world and are endorsed by many large city mayors like Bloomberg in NYC. Patrolling with OC would be a great deterrent. Of course I'm talking about OC where it's legal. I think they would be a great help to police especially in high-crime areas like E. Palo Alto, Oakland, Richmond, and just about anywhere in LA. And since they carry radios, that should be their first line of defense.(call the police first)But in a situation where a life is in imminent danger, than they can react appropriately. Perps seeing GAs with OC I'll wager would make many criminals think twice before doing their crime. As I understand it the GAspatrol in pairs which would be difficult for a BG to take on a GA one on one. I wouldn't mind volunteering if I was allowed to OC.

Insurance alone would kill them, when they wear the beret & the GA shirt they are no longer private citizens, as an organization they would be required to get Liability insurance, very costly......thats why most Casino's in Vegas , went to unarmed security guards...was costing them too much money.

In addition to the above, one of the original missions of the GA's was to reform gang members in the inner city. Their mission was to END violence in the street and they originally felt that firearms would only escalate matters. Plus in many of the places where they do their most effective work, the law does not allow firearms carry by average citizens as a routine matter (DC, NY, LA, etc). Remember they are NOT LEOs nor do they have standing in the law above the average citizen. Like people here at OCDO they are activists. THeir founder was in fact a reformed gang member.

That said if you are really interest in the Guardian Angles you might want to ask this question on their website -

http://www.guardianangels.org/index.php

WHile I could be wrong, it would seem to me that if a person wants to know why a particular group of people does not carry sidearms, the people to ask would be that particular group. After all people on this website usually take the view that every person who is able should be armed, and most here probably would ask the same question you have if they had the opportunity to talk with a GA.

I would imagine it is because a lot of Guardian Angels are ex-gang-members, and therefore are probably felons, and ineligible to possess firearms...

DING DING DING DING!

You win the prize!

Most of them are convicted felons that decided to "turn their lives around". Have you ever met any in person? I have. They're pretty scary in their own right.

I was stationed in NYC and saw some of them on the subway. They come pretty close to being vigiliantes at times, too. When I saw them "in action", they were harassing a couple of kids that were wearing their pants down past their butts and their boxers showing. The "kids" weren't doing anything wrong that I could tell, but in NYC, you mind your own business unless you see a crime in progress, and then you call "911" from a safe distance. "Its a whole other world there"...

I didn't know anything about the OC Movement back then, but knowing what I know now and thinking about my time in NYC, I can only conclude the following: I don't have enough ammo to solve most of the problems I can see happening. The ONLY way I can see getting out of a situation unscathed would be CCing, suprise and superior tactics and skills. You're outnumbered, outgunned and usually surrounded most of the time...
