The Goodwill store here in Washington NC actually has a "circle slash" no guns sign prominantly displayed on their door.

I don't go there anymore...

A good many gun shows require all guns to be unloaded and triggers to be banded. I sometimes OC when exhibiting there, but don't think it counts.

I love Utah! I cannot carry to mental health facilities, LDS (Mormon) churches, and federal installations. Everywhere else I can and do open carry. I conceal if there's a sign that says no weapons, but not because I am legally obligated to do so. These signs carry NO LEGAL WEIGHT in my state. I can be asked to leave, but it's not illegal if I do carry. My wife won't let me OC in the school she teaches at, otherwise I would. She's a 7th grade teacher.

I carried once while in jail. I was 17, got stopped and harassed very belligerently about a tail light not working. I fixed the light and this guy still would not shut up about it.When I noticed that the approximately 5'5" deputy's name was Little, I couldn't resist. He was so mad at me that he took me to jail without frisking me, putting me in county garb, nothing. I had a .38 in my boot. Called a friend of minethat was a retired deputy and told him that I had something I needed to give him.He sent the #2 guy with the sheriff's department to talk to me and I gave it up to him.

I got released without charges.Deputy Little had to pay for my car being towed and impounded, thengot fired. True story, Ripley.

Work is the only place I choose to CC instead of OC.

Being a resident of NM, anytime I go shopping at wal-mart, smiths, safeway or ANY FRIGGIN GROCERY STORE IN TOWN (they all sell alchohol for off premise consumption), I am required to CC or face felony charges.:banghead:

I've got family in NM and visit a couple of times a year. I HATE the (effective) grocery store ban. I'm sure it is widely disregarded by those who CC. But I'm not just not willing to risk felony charges. I even have to make sure I can actually pay at the pump when getting fuel in NM because carrying inside to pay the cashier is illegal due to the same ban on carrying anywhere alcohol is sold.

The extended domain that allows permit free carrying in the car very nice however and helped us convince Utah lawmakers that we could do likewise without problems. So thanks for that.

Here in Utah, the only places on that list that are legally off limit to OC or CC if you have a permit to carry are churches that specifically give notice that guns are banned. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has done this for all of their houses of worship in the State. One or two other congregations have given notice for their buildings.

I do not carry to church as it is illegal and my religious leaders have made clear they do not want privately owned guns in church. One of those little sacrifices for religion.

I do not carry into work as they can fire me for doing so and likely would if I were to be discovered. I'm well enough known as the gun guy that I just can't expect not to be noticed. Utah does have parking lot preemption and lock boxes for the car are readily available.

Holding a permit I am legally allowed to carry into schools, bars, and virtually anyplace else I want to. My polling place is often inside either a Middle or High school and I always carry to the polls. I carry to my kids' school. I make a point to OC when visiting the State capital.

As a matter of courtesy I will often choose CC rather than OC when attending events like weddings, funerals, receptions, etc where most of those in attendance would consider a visible firearm to be at least inappropriate in the same way showing up in ratty jeans and t-shirt, rather than a suit and tie, would be inappropriate. In many cases, such events are held inside an LDS Church and so even CC is prohibited anyway.

I will often choose to CC rather than OC when visiting friends or neighbors who I know are or would be uncomfortable with a visible firearm. I consider this no different than removing my shoes when visiting those who don't want street shoes worn inside their homes.

I will not visit a hospital without being armed. I just figure there is too much chance of something happening in an area full of sick, injured people, with lots of drugs available, and where the messes of gang shootings and such end up being cleaned up. If I am merely making a social call on someone being treated, I will often OC, but sometimes CC. If I am accompanying a friend or family member and will be acting as their advocate, I CC just to avoid creating any distractions for those treating my charge.

I think there is great value in OCing. But I think there are some times when having a gun openly displayed may create more problems than it is worth, either short or long term. Just as I am sensitive to the feelings of others when it comes to my dress, my language, the subject matter of conversations, and so on, I try not to be needlessly insensitive to feelings and fears (irrational as they may be) about firearms. A nurse who sees me carrying in a grocery store has been exposed. She need not necessarily confront her fears about such at the same moment she is administering care to someone I love.

I put other.

Most of the places on your list are illegal to carry at all into in NC.

I OC almost everywhere I can legally. I don't OC when I am in 'bad' areas, or where I know my chances of being hassled for it are not worth my wasted time if stopped.

I OC every place I legally can. If I could OC everywhere, I would do that.

I haven't experienced that at the Herndon (Sunrise Valley)or the Manassas (RT 234 business) locations.

I don't OC at so many place I can't name them all, I can't name them because I don't shop/go there.
There's a Goodwill on Sunrise Valley? Or are you talking about the Salvation Army locations (I know there's one in both locations you mention - there's also a Goodwill on 234)?

Really? Isn't there even one place you need to go to get something that you don't want to have a gun at? Like a hospital, school, doctor's office, road race, etc....

I mean, if you somehow snagged an invite to, say, a state dinner at the White House....you would not go????
If I got a invite to one of Obama's state dinner's, I would send it back. I can't stand him.
True story.....

several years back in Portland (OR) my wife and I were downtown for an evening out...we knew that Clinton would be intown fundraising and my brother in law would be there (SS agent), so we wandered down to the Hilton and ran into my B-I-L and he knew we were carrying, so did other agents. Nary a word....carry on.
