Police seek Newport News restaurant robber

Police are looking for a man who carried out a robbery at a Newport News restaurant on Friday night.

Officers were called to Mike's Place at 11006 Warwick Boulevard at 10:17 p.m. after a man robbed the business and a waitress, suggesting he had a handgun, police spokesman Harold Eley said.

"There were several customers in the business during the robbery. No one was injured," Eley said.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches in height and 18-24 years old. He was wearing red gloves, had a red scarf on his head and another red scarf on his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.

They should have laughed at him, and told him that it was impossible for him to have a gun in a Virginia restaurant that serves alchohol as that would be against the law.............

Obviously we just need to pass a law against armed robbery to prevent this sort of thing from happening... oh wait.

I think you mean "it was impossible for him to have a concealed handgun in a Virginia restaurant that serves alcohol..." as that is what is against the law. Open Carry in restaurants is perfectly legal, alcohol on the menu or not.

According to the plain reading of the story, he must have been carrying concealed (or perhaps not at all), since the presence of the handgun was "suggested" and not actually seen first hand.
