    _____ Snow Boots (No Jungle Boots or Steel Toes)
    _____ Winter Jacket
    _____ Pants (2 Pair)
    _____ Gloves (2 Pairs)
    _____ Balaclava Head Cover (or Ski Mask)
    _____ Thermal Underwear (2 Changes)
    _____ Wool Socks (2 Pair - At Least)
    _____ Winter Sleeping Bag
    _____ Personal Shelter, Tarp or Poncho
    _____ Gear Sled/ main packwe must have at least 1 per fireteam
    _____ Winter or Metal Canteen
    _____ Sunglasses or Tinted Goggles
    _____ Food For 3 Days (Carried In Your Gear)
    _____ 4 Quarts Of Water (Approx. 4 Canteen's Full)I will have 10 gals of water
    _____ Roll Of Toilet Paper
    _____ magnesium fire starter
    _____ knife either combat or work or both


    OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
    _____ Snow Shoes
    _____ Ski's
    _____ Small Propane Stove or Heater (or Alcohol Stove)
    _____ Chemical Hand Warmers

    _____ Extra Food, Water Or Toilet Paper


    WINTER SURVIVAL SKILLS YOU MUST PREFORM
    _____ Construct A Winter Shelter For Yourself
    _____ Build A Fire
    _____ Gather Firewood For A 6 Hour Fire
    _____ Dry Your Boots & Clothing
    _____ Thaw Drinking Water (1 Canteen Full)
    _____ Prepare A Hot Meal For Yourself
    _____ Winterize Your Rifle
    _____ Transport Your Gear With Your Sled
    _____ Camouflage Yourself And Your Gear For Winter


    WINTER FIRST-AID SKILLS
    _____ Transport A Casuality With Your Sled
    _____ Treat A Casualty For Hypothermia
    _____ Treat A Casualty For Dehydration
    _____ Treat A Casualty For Frostbite
    _____ Treat A Casualty For Snow Blindness


    WINTER SHOOTING SKILLS
    _____ Shoot 10 Shots From The Prone Position At A
    9" Paperplate From 100 Yards.

    _____ Shoot 10 Shots From The Prone Position, Using
    Your Sled, At A 9" Paperplate From 100 Yards.

    _____ Shoot 10 Shots From A Non-Bench Position At A
    9" Paperplate From 100 Yards.

    _____ Shoot 10 Shots Using Your Ski Poles As A
    Support At A 9" Paperplate From 100 Yards.

    _____ 4 Pin Shoot - Using The Standing, Kneeling &
    Prone Positions While Using Cover And
    Concealment Moving Forward 100 Yards.

    _____ Low Light Shooting.


    Our Field Support Will Prepare One Hot Meal Per Day. Remember, The Purpose Of This Training Is How YOU Will Survive As An Individual In A Winter Situation.

    THIS IS THE SCHEDULE WE FOLLOW :

    FRIDAY - FEBRUARY 5TH

    2000 - Advance Team Deploys To Camp D-Day
    Priorities
    Secure Perimeter, Recon And Locate Camp Area In Woods, Out Of The Wind.
    Build Your Shelter.
    Build A Fire.
    Post Guards, Guides And Radio Watch
    (Monitor FRS Channel 2, ALT Channel 5 or CB Channel 2 & 22)
    HAM Operators - Monitor 146.420
    2300 - Midrat's (Hot Food & Drink)
    2400 - Guard Duty (Change Of Watch)


    SATURDAY - FEBRUARY 6TH

    0400 - Guard Duty (Change Of Watch)
    0600 - STAND TO PROCEDURES - Wake Up Call. Team Leaders/Medics Will Check
    Individuals For Cold Weather Injuries Or Other Problems. Breakfast & Hydration.

    0800 - Guard Duty (Change Of Watch)
    0900 - Gear Up, Camo and Gear Check.
    1000 - Two Team Bounding In The Woods, Check Movement, Camo & Communications.
    (or L1 & L2 Qualifying Walks At This Time)

    1200 - Lunch & Hydration Break (L1 & L2 Qualifying Shooters May Shoot)
    1300 - Cold Weather Shoot. Minimum Of 2 Strings Of 10 Shots Each At A 9" Paperplate From
    100 Yards. 1 String From The Prone, and 1 String From Other Non-Bench Position.
    Qualifiers May Shoot Concurrently With This, But No More Than 2 Strings At A Time.

    1500 - Casualty/Gear Re-Supply Movement (With Security Element) Using Sleds Will Cross At
    Least 1 Danger Area, Either Linear Or An Open Field.

    1700 - 4 Pin Shoot. Fire Building Class And Water Thawing Concurrently.
    1800 - Dinner & Hydration Break. (Hot Food & Drink)
    1900 - Low Light Shooting. Hopefully We Will Use Silhouette Targets For This. We Will
    Discuss And Try Some Practical Low Light Shooting Aids.

    2100 - Night Recon, Perimeter Patrol. Check Night Movement & Communications.
    2400 - Guard Duty (Change Of Watch)


    SUNDAY - FEBRUARY 7TH

    0400 - Guard Duty (Change Of Watch)
    0800 - Guard Duty (Change Of Watch - Wake Up Call. Team Leaders/Medics Will Check
    Individuals For Cold Weather Injuries Or Other Problems.
    Breakfast & Hydration (Hot Food & Drink)

    0900 - Gear Up, Camo and Gear Check.
    1000 - 2 Mile Tactical Walk (Un-Timed)
    1100 - Additional Fire Building Class, Snow Shoe and/or Ski Practice.
    1200 - Lunch & Hydration Break.
    1300 - Open Range & Cold Weather Pistol Shoot.
    1500 - End of Exercise

    Sounds cold... :P It's too bad I work weekends. This could be fun, and a great learning experience. Ah, the great outdoors.

    this sounds a lot like MMCW! looks like a good time. I would be there in a heart beat if I didn't have my winter training that same weekend with the Marines!
    enjoy your time, looks like you will have a lot more in depth training than us.

    yes and no. Frank stasa died and his family are not letting us run ops there anymore. Now they are at camp d-day in rose city michigan

    Anything like this ever happening in the U.P.?
    It sounds like something I would enjoy participating in.
    I have already had to spend the night alone unarmedin the Ottawa national forest when I blew the chaincase apart on my snowmobile. All I knew is that I was someplace between Rockland & Bergland when it happened and I wanted to spend the night instead of trying to hike it out in the dark.

    Spruce trees are great for a makeshift shelter along with a few mylar emergency blankets and a magnesium fire-starter bar/flint combo.
