Good grief - how bad can the reporting be in CarryLand?

I have calls into 3 forks at that newspaper asking for a correction.

Here is what i caught as incorrect - any comments or additions welcome:

I have calls into 3 people re the article below:

http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/govt_and_politics/article_3f479667-0c46-5364-8c6d-07a44523e10e.html?mode=story

SNIPS

“They were only looking at **automatic** weapons,” says Gorsky, who keeps a variety of handguns and rifles in his Madison home. “I found that the most concerning.” [reporter should have corrected quote or noted he was referring to normal semi-automatic guns]

"It’s not the only easy way criminals have discovered to get their hands on a weapon. Sometimes they get it from a friend or family member who buys the gun under his or her own name. This act of “straw purchasing” is just a misdemeanor in Wisconsin, punishable by up to nine months in jail."[not illegal unless the recipient is the actual purchaser - there is no buying "in your name" anyway - the ATF Form 4473 is simply a record of transfer - the new owner can then give away or sell her gun after she leaves the store]

"Unlike weapons purchased from a federally licensed firearms dealer, weapons bought at a gun show can be whisked away that same day without a background check on the purchaser, the main reason for Gorsky’s concern." [grossly misleading - private sellers where ever they are do not need to run background checks - only federal dealers do, and they must do so even at gun shows]

"These loopholes in the law" [how about so-called loopholes? When do freedoms become de facto loopholes?]

"A check must be conducted before a person can buy a handgun in Wisconsin, except when the gun is purchased at a gun show." [not true - there is no exception at gun shows - all dealers must run background checks; private sellers do not nor do they outside gun shows at yard sales, thru newspaper ads, etc.]

"State law now allows weapons to be carried in someone’s home, business or on their land." [and openly generally, in public, and accordingly to the Wisc. S. Ct. in Hamdan, concealed where the carrier has a good reason and lawful purpose].

When they accompany the story with a photo of a pistol dripping blood, their agenda is obvious.

Maybe my thinking process is all wrong, but my initial and current opinion of what I see when I see that sidearm, is that it had just been painted. Too closely and with the spray can held too long in spots since it is running.

Another web site where the misleading Capital Timesstory written by that nutty reporter was posted. Gotta love the comments.:D

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2406017/posts

The anti-Constitution and elitist Chicago Joyce Foundationfunded WAVE organization also has the article posted on their website. They didn't post any of the comments. Obviously they don't want the true about firearms to be known.

http://www.waveedfund.org/archives/116#more-116

WAVE also makes a big deal out of adiscredited poll (already used in the state legislature in support of an anti-firearm legislation) that Bloomberg paid for on behalf of MAiG. As the report's tag-line says "The Word Doctors - It's not what you say, it's what people hear." Wave cherry picks the poll for their propaganda purposes:

http://www.waveedfund.org/

The poll can be found here:

The truth about the poll can be found here:
