Went to the new subway in lakewood today on south tacoma way with the drive through. Nothing was said to me at all, as per usual. But as I was leaving a Unicorn walked in. Here is the strange part though. He was wearing his military BDUs. I have always been told military people are not aloud to wear their weapon in uniform. I know his custom griped 1911 was not government issue. His rank was a black dot which I believe is pretty low. We didn't talk at all, hopefully he doesn't get in trouble.

Well, if he was in BDUs, he probably wasn't military. The black dot means cadet. This person could have been a ROTC cadet, but to be honest, I don't really know much about their uniform regs. As far as the firearms goes, the Marines have talked about bringing the 1911 back, but I don't think that that has happened yet. Most likely, it was just someone that likes to wear BDUs. If they were in ACUs, that's a different matter. Most likely it was a young and dumb soldier that may have been a specialist(easy to mistake as a black dot). If that's the case, he was wrong and most likely will be corrected shortly.

I am guessing young soilder since he was wearing the same outfit all my military customers wear in to the shop. I didn't realize there were different specific types of cammo uniform being non-military. have since used google.

Thanks, learn something new everyday.

Got pulled over in Lacey last night for what I suspect is having a CPL.

I was leaving work and had no more than 2 minutes later as I was entering the highway was I stopped. The officer approached me and asked if I was aware that my license was suspended. I informed him that it was not and he should check again. At this point he asked me for License, Registration and Insurance. I gave him my license and told him I'd be happy to get my registration and insurance out of my center console where my firearm is located. He sort of balked at that point. He asked if he could take my firearm out first for me. I declined. He took my license and went back to his vehicle.

During the time that he was gone, another officer proceeded to try and ask me lots of questions about where I was and what I was doing. Most of which I declined to answer.

When the original officer returns he tells me that he had been following another vehicle that was very similar to mine and had a similar license plate as well.

At no time did I provide my CPL, or my registration or insurance for that matter.

This seems to me to be a pretextual stop and is a violation of your rights. There is no way he could of known if you were the suspended driver or not. I would call and make a formal complaint.

I was pulled over once and told my license plate light was burned out. When I asked to get out and check, I was denied. Ended up being told to get it fixed and have a nice day. It wasn't burned out. It seems all is needed anymore is a thin excuse that might justify if something else was found.

I was also pulled over back when I first moved here and got a ticket for expired plates. I insisted they were not but could find my registration. went to court with proof, one piece being a picture of the tags that clearly had the year printed in small numbers below the month. The police officer insisted that there shold be a month sticker and there wasn't one. The judge told me I was free to leave and asked the officer to come to the bench and keep the photo as a reminder that different states do tabs differently. still smile everytime I think of going to court for something and prevail.

I get the pretextual stop part. But I was under the impression they can check the status of the registered driver by plate. Last I was talking to Systems for Public Safety down the street. They said soon the scanners on tops of cars will be able to flag a car they drive past and it will check against the "hot sheet", search for amber alert vehicles, and flag uninsured motorists. in the future the company that makes them is looking at being able to drive through a parking lot and geo tag car locations, like at a bar.

Of course they don't know if your friend or family member was driving your car! And if they make the scanners Geo tag how will they know if your a DD. Just seems more big brother pretextual, unlawful uses.

Can you explain this a bit more for me?

I have been out and about in Auburn last few days. Went over to Sunset cars in Auburn o/c and was talking w the salesman about guns and stuff after he noticed. He thought it was cool I could carry like that. Told him it was legal. Went to both Sound credit union and bank of america both o/c. No words said.

Went to Buffalo wild wings in Federal Way o/c with the family strong side to others. No words said, but did get a few looks. As I understand, they are anti-gun, but still no words said. After dinner went to Gateway theater also o/c. Not even a glance towards me.

Had a great day!

To the best of my knowledge they can check to see if the registered owner has a valid license. But they shouldn't be taking the time to check that anyway.

They have no idea if it is the owner of the car driving or your dad, or friend borrowing your car to goto walmart. So unless they see somone operate the car in a manor that was a violation like running a red light or speeding. And at that point they can ask for ID and run your license.

Oh, you didn't know? LEOs can do whatever they want when ever they want... Just ask them...

They can run plates and see if the registered owner has a suspended license. Hell, that's the reason mine is suspended currently. But it doesn't end there, they are currently pulling over and vehicle registered to me to make sure I'm not driving it. While it could be harassment, I choose to look at it like they are keeping citizens honest which IS their primary function. I'm not driving so it has to be them running plates on their camera.

When I got pulled over and informed my license was suspended I saw the LEO sitting on the side of the road 5 min prior to him lighting me up as I was pulling into my parking spot in Walmart.

What?

No! This is not their primary function. Their function is to gather information after a crime has been committed and then find the perpetrator.

I'm not disagreeing with your POV. That is what the police are for, along with attempting to keep people honest.

I may be young and skewed in my view of the world, this is my belief.

+1.....add in a little enforcement once in a while (as in speeding tickets), however you have a pretty good track record with that as well. :D

Have been a bit busy lately, So here are some highlights from my carries.

Last week,

Had a nice Older Lady in the parking lot of Cabelas stop me and thanked me for supporting my 2A rights. I thanked her for thanking me.

Yesterday at Surplus Arms, had a guy stop me and ask a few questions about OC (he was from CA) and ask about the rally. Then he stopped by our booth today at the rally, Great to see new peeps showing up.

Today, OC around the capital with my daily carry and my AR. Then up to the Fox Hole surplus in FT. Lewis. Picked up a nice shoulder rig with dual mag pouches for 18 bucks. Set it up in the car and wore it around Cabelas. Then over to Sportsmans Wholesale to pick up 2 more mags for my pistol.

Then handed out my first OC flier to the cashier at the shell off exit 88. As I walked up to the register she asked if I had a "Permit to carry that", I informed her about OC and she said "We're required to ask (if you have a permit)". So I handed her a flier and said "now you won't have to ask, you'll know".

After attending the rally, my friend I and I took the bus up to Federal Way.

Getting on to the ST574 the lady driver asked me what I had on my leg. I told her that it was a Glock. She then claimed that it was illegal to carry a gun on the bus. I told her that she was mistaken. She claimed to know the law and that it was illegal. I told her that it was not illegal at all. She called a supervisor over and the supervisor told her that we are an open carry state and it was legal unless I was threatening people with it. Then she said, oh I didn't know that.

Other than that, no problems at all.

OCed yesterday in Olympia. Not a word said about my gun. For some reason I felt very safe in the crowd of up to 3000 people in a small area. I think a few others were OCing too.
