I've been in MD for 4.5 days. Here in the land of "no carry" it's sort of hard to get used to.

My daughters live in Olney and Baltimore. My wife travels back and forth to MD for a job (and to help her daughter with her new grandchild!), so we have a "secondary residence" in Montgomery County.

I live in NC, and have a NC CHP. I carry all the time.

I have friends in VA, and carry whenever I go there.

I have family in WV and PA and carry when I visit them as well.

But here in the People's Republic of MD, I can't carry--not on my hip, not in my car, not anywhere but inside my house.

My pants all don't fit properly. My back actually hurts from NOT carrying. :X

I'm HYPER alert when I'm out and about--especially after dark. And today, while out shopping, my cellphone's battery died, and I felt like I needed to immediately wrap it up and get to my car so I could charge it up again. I DO NOT like being in a state where someone has arbitrarily legislated that I cannot exercise the right to OC that I have in almost 40 other states, and they do not recognize my CHP, which is recognized in 31 states.

I hope our daughters move to VA.

MD laws suck. And I mean that in the WORST possible way...

I really feel for our 2A-believing brothers and sisters who find themselves living under the tyrannical flag of the personal arms of the Calvert and Crossland families.

I pray that someday soon, our brothers and sisters from the People's Republic of Maryland will see fit to amend their own State Constitution, and include a State-level RKBA clause (which they DO NOT currently have!!!).

I hope that someday soon, the subjects of this fascist oligarchy we call Maryland will throw off the shackles of their overlords, and step up to the status of a Free and Sovereign People, like their cousins to the north (PA), south (VA), and west (WV) of them.

I hope that someday, after decades and generations of corrupt politicians, dastardly back-room conniving, and nanny-state social policies, the fine peoples of this pitiable little fiefdom will rise up, and take their fair state back from the sociopathic Fabian Socialists who have brainwashed many of the people here into believing they are safer without their RKBA, while thousands are victimized each year in their own State Capital, unable to defend against predators, criminals, thieves and thugs.

And I can't wait for this Thursday, when we'll be driving to WV to visit my family for 4 days, and I can once again excercise my lawful right to keep and bear arms...

And although I love my daughters and my sweet, innocent little granddaughter, I can't wait to get back to North Carolina, where (at least in MY neck of the woods) OC and CC are viewed as a POSITIVE activity by the People, and are deemed to be a socially responsible action by most of the local LEO's...

I can't wait to be back in a state--ANY STATE--where having the immediate ability to defending myself and my loved ones does not make me, per se, a criminal...

By a sheer quirk of fate...I was born in Maryland. Like 'original sin' I've lived my life as a 'recovering Marylander' and have tried hard to avoid it and it's myopic mindlesness since I reached the age of reason. It's motto: 'The Free State' reeks of hypocracy. It's own state anthem is/was a call to arms to throw off the yoke of Federal tyranny and seceed... but they never sing the remaining stanzas. Few can even recite them, much less comprehend their meaning.

MD was joined at the hip to DC by Federal force of armsin 1861 and has never recovered from the occupation operation. The right to bear arms was eliminated from the State Constitution during the Constitutional Convents of 1867 in advance of the 14th Amendment and because of 'Dred Scott' to prevent (former slave) Negro's from bearing arms... (or owning dogs even) by the heavily KKK Democrat post war legislature.

I will neverreturn there again for any reason. It's not by accident that I'm a permanent'Zonie.Nor is it accidental I live where I do in the desert'boonies'. I have nothing in common with Maryland... politics, lifestyle, dress, speech mannerismsor even their eating habits. The only way to defend yourself in MD is to do so at your peril from the tyranny of the State. Many do anyway. Many choose not to be a victim, regardless of the 'State'.

God Bless Arizona!

I am currently living in Montgomery County, MD and I tell you what, the cops are complete dicks about firearms. My friend had a pistol pointed at him all because their was a rather large gun case in the trunk protruding into the back seat.

So, if you were to get an MD CC permit by some grace of god, you will most likely get shot by a LEO then a criminal. Not to mention all of the people living around me are extreme liberal dorks. Don't get me wrong, the extreme conservative dorks can be just as bad if not worse. I just tell all of them to keep it in their pants as long as I am around. ;)

Maryland, you sure tread on me.

Yeah... MD LEO's are prone to WAY over react to any hint of a firearm... even in a box. It's like a Pavlovian reflex... You have more to fear from the Polizie than the criminals there. This isn't 'cop bashing'... it's the freakin' truth. Monkey County is Libdorkville in spades. Then... there's the Murderland Stattes Polizie SS mentalitiy to contend with. Sorry... they do not serve the public. They serve the socialist oppressors masquerading as government.

Plus, CC is only obtainable if you either have a shitload of money to "give" to the department or you know someone. My sister applied for one after he stalker broke into her house and she was denied even after going through all the necessary requirements. Its as, if not worse, then New York.

Is is not ironic that other states will trust MD.residents in 'their state'with carrying a handgun but MD. will not trust its own residents in MD.? I'm happy to say that I have moved from there and into PA. where the firearm laws are much more relaxed and honest people are not punished by the acts of lawbreakers. By the way you can commit some very serious crimes in MD,be found guilty and maybe get a slap on the wrist. Check it out sometime, what some people get charged with and what their 'punishment' is! Nothing to brag about at all being a MD.resident, I grew up there and spent 40+years there. So long and good ridence!

Yeah, I noticed that Maryland has some "misdemeanor" penalties that can range from 30 days to 3 years in jail or a fine between $250 and $2500. For example, violation of § 4-203. Wearing, carrying, or transporting handgun.

Virginia law applies the same silliness to recognition of Maryland permits as Maryland applies to its own resident issuance policy. I find it amusing:

Snipped from 18.2-308:
<snip>
Q. A valid concealed handgun permit issued by the State of Maryland shall be valid in the Commonwealth provided, (i) the holder of the permit is licensed in the State of Maryland to perform duties substantially similar to those performed by Virginia branch pilots licensed pursuant to Chapter 9 (§ 54.1-900 et seq.) of Title 54.1 and is performing such duties while in the Commonwealth, and (ii) the holder of the permit is 21 years of age or older.
<snip>

If it weren't for subsection Q, Maryland could actually qualify for recognition under subsection P provided that they have a 24/7 permit verification system. It's probably true, though I can't cite all the relevant code, that the requirements and qualifications of Maryland's law are adequate to prevent possession of a permit or license by persons who would be denied a permit in Virginia. Maybe not though... anyway...

<snip>
P. A valid concealed handgun or concealed weapon permit or license issued by another state shall authorize the holder of such permit or license who is at least 21 years of age to carry a concealed handgun in the Commonwealth, provided (i) the issuing authority provides the means for instantaneous verification of the validity of all such permits or licenses issued within that state, accessible 24 hours a day, and (ii) except for the age of the permit or license holder and the type of weapon authorized to be carried, the requirements and qualifications of that state's law are adequate to prevent possession of a permit or license by persons who would be denied a permit in the Commonwealth under this section. The Superintendent of State Police shall (a) in consultation with the Office of the Attorney General determine whether states meet the requirements and qualifications of this section, (b) maintain a registry of such states on the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN), and (c) make the registry available to law-enforcement officers for investigative purposes. The Superintendent of the State Police, in consultation with the Attorney General, may also enter into agreements for reciprocal recognition with any state qualifying for recognition under this subsection.
