I have been on the forum a couple of months now and noticed a large number of you are former/current military or leo. I am neither.

I am curious how many are like me and have never served in any capacity. I am also NOT a LEO junkie/wannabe. I simply enjoy hunting with my buddies a couple of times a year.

I havestudied American Revolutionary Politics and Constitutional Law and appreciate the founders, but other than that my life has not been focused around government service (I work in retail) and truly am just the average joe that has carried (CC) for the last 10 years or more and now OC's more and more.

No you are not the average Joe, you are a Sheepdog! You take responsibility for your own self determination, and I'm sure would lend necessary force to protect innocents around you. And SVG, remember the poll is only 2 hours old,,on Christmas day, give it some time:D

I took a stab at the Army back in '84, solely becasue at that time you could notbuy a job anywhere and I was unemployed. Didn't quite make it through 13 wks combined boot training for "Combat Arms" (infantry). Couldn't make muster in the PT requirements and was honorably discharged. So I don't think that counts as "former mil."

Boot camp is quite an experience.

First entered AD in 1961 and went through basic toting a M1 Garand. I learned very quickly to love that ugly, heavy piece of fine weaponry.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you and yours.

I've been both actually. Two branches of service, refueling jets and helicopters, infantry, and medic. (LOL, just like the infantry, jack of all trades and master of none.). 15 years total. Also a brief stint as leo, but didn't like the small town politics and goings on behind peoples backs.

I am a lifelong civilian, but have done contract work for the US DOJ, NIJ, NCJRS, NLECTC, as well as the Department of the Navy and various "intelligence organizations". This work has varied from publication production, to field research and equipment certification testing, to systems development, to training.

So I've never worn a uniform, but much of the last 20 years of my professional life have been devoted to providing training, support, and research for our fine men and women in uniform, both civilian and military...

Retired US Army Master Sergeant, 21 years. Carried an automatic M-14 in Vietnam (I was the unit's Designated Target when we went over the mountains and through the woods with my automatic weapon draped over the cab of our 3/4-ton).

I open carry regularly, but not this time of year - but I'm still carrying!

Didn't do much playing with firearms as an Army Transporter, but the training I received early on has stayed with me all these years. Safety first, safety last, safety always.
