Hurst, chairman of the House Public Safety Committee and a retired police officer, said that his hearing, planned for Jan. 18, will examine every aspect of the Clemmons case.

"These are horrifically shocking crimes to the public at large and we need to have some answers," he said. "What are some of the factors that caused this to occur? What are some things we can do to make sure this never happens again?"

But they're just poor poor babies who got a bad hand in life & beat up by their fathers who then abandoned them and we've got to have compassion and rehabilitate these, the true victims. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

And the mother had no time to teach them right from wrong, because she was to busy cashing in food stamps so she could go to the bar and get a new father for her 3 kids.

I never could understand, why hand down a sentence then cut it short, especially for something like good behavior. Shouldnt it be that you just dont go to jail for good behavior, and if you get 20 years thats what you do. Even more not understandable to me, is "2 life sentences" that should just be an immediate execution. In fact anyone who is convicted for life, should be executed. Why should we pay for them.

It would be interesting to look at a list of all the existing laws that are designed to protect both Police and Public that ARE NOT FULLY ENFORCED. The biggest one that first comes to mind is the Death Penalty. Anyone convicted of the crime of aggravated murder, including that of a Police Officer while conducting his duties, is subject to the Death Penalty under existing law. The issue is two-fold. First is whether the Death Penalty is asked for at trial and the second is that when applied as a sentence it is rarely carried out. It seems that a prisoner on Death Row has a greater liklihood of dying of old age than of being executed.

I'd like to see less selection by prosecutors of who is, and who is not, prosecuted under charges where Capital Punishment is possible.

The only way punishment of any kind works is to take it from the level of "Threat" to that of "Certainty". Think of how one trains a dog or raises a child. The more one just threatens to punish rather than following through, the less serious the dog or child takes the "threat".

Agreed. Exposing already passed laws and lack of using them in prosecuting criminals would be a huge effect. Now of course the anti's response will be that they need more money, but if we can get them to focus on that and not another gun law that would be a victory.
