Nice to see some coverage in my local paper. I sent David DeBolt, the reporter who wrote the story an e-mail thanking him for the coverage.

I also gave him a heads up on a Palo Alto meetup that is in the planning stages for March/April.

The rough draft can be found on Google Docs.

From the Palo Alto Daily Post website:

    http://padailypost.com/

"You won't find any news on this site. Giving away news online is a dumb way to do business. News is valuable. We put our news in print. The news creates demand for our paper, and increased readership makes our ads more effective than advertising in any other medium."

LOL that's rich. Print news is a dying business. That's like IBM refusing to sell computers because it cuts into their typewriter business!

    LOL. Arrogant little pricks.

I used to be a reporter and the newspaper group STILL doesn't have any of its publications online. But at least they have the sense not to make up BS excuses like that. Newspaper classifieds are practically dead, and display ads are on their way out along with circulation. The government-required Legal Notices are really the only thing they can rely on for revenue.

I just came up with a BRILLIANT idea that may just save the newspapers from being ruined by the internet!

Sell advertising space ON YOUR WEB SITE! It's just crazy enough it might work!

The Palo Alto Daily Post's headline yesterday was how their competition, the Palo Alto Daily News's parent company has filled for bankruptcy. Over 1 billion dollars in debt.

Perhaps they are not so crazy after all.

I just got off the phone with David DeBolt. I thanked him for covering our story in the Daily Post and told him about our plight.
