good job giant eagle in rochester i opc in exxon in chippawa no prob there and was asked to cover my gun in wal-mart in chippawa but i called there home office and they said there is no policy saying a customer cannot carry they said sorry for my trouble and i carry there still

Chipawa Wal-Mart:

Me and my wife and 3 children were there shopping and I had my Glock 17 in a Fobus holster open carrying on 11-26-09 after eating at Fire Mountain.



I noticed a shelf stock guy following me from a distance and then disapear. He returned coming at me from alang the wall and I noticed a famale approaching me at a 90 degree angle to him down an isle. She told me I needed to immediately leave the store. I asked her why and she informed me that no firearms are allowed in the store. I told her that Wal-Mart says that they follow the prevailing state law, and she told me that they absolutely do not and that customers are nervouse. Not one customer was near to me, and the few I passed did not take notice of my Glock, anly the shelf stock guy took exception to my presence.



I asked for her name as I pulled out my phone to take notes, she refused her name but her tag read Chris and also labeled her as Manager. I asked her if I untucked my shirt and covered could we keep shopping and she told me no, no guns are allowed in Wal-Mart, leave immediately.

This was and still is the only place I have been asked to leave.

i talked to the store manager he called me and said sorry like a dozen times that he would inform the rest of the store that its ok and noone will bother me anymore so you should be ok now oh by the way good gun glock17

SOOOoooo, :question: I am wondering...did you leave???:?

On that point, for you guys who've experienced this kind of ignorance (intolerance of the law) at what point do you stop trying to "convince" the person that it really is OK for you to be there? Do you have a certain point at which you just conceed and leave or do you hang in there a little longer and try to "Educate" the person, Or is it usually ineffective?
I am new here and have only ever CC. Just trying to get a feel for this.

Well if I'm right Wal-Marts policy is that they follow state law which is OC is legal. Now I don't know if private property rules kick in when they ask you to leave and you have to think that they will call police for disturbing the peace by not leaving so IMO it's up to you how long you stay there and argue with them. :banghead:

Wally World's firearms policy is to follow state law.

Wally World also has a policy that says EMPLOYEES aren't allowed to have guns in the store.

Some people get the two confused.

At the point where she told me that they do not allow firearms, even concealed... I told my wife that I would be in the truck waiting for her.

I don't think it would have been worth trying to "educate" her as I can only see that ending in a call to the police and me at the minimum getting a lecture and escorted out, or maybe some sort of charges for trespassing private property after being clearly told to leave. When your on someone elses property, I feel that they do have the right to ask that you evacuate. And based on that thought I feel that you should do so quickly and quietly.

I of course still OC and this is still the single one place that has asked me to leave. I did not like it or agree with it, but you know what.... tough cookies. I make a choice to carry in the way that I do, I deal with the outcome. I am not carrying open to see if I can start a legal battle or end up as front page news..... nor am I saying that most OC'ers are doing that.... but I think that if you feel that while you are on another's private property that you should stand your ground and try to force your will or opinion.... you just may be an asshole. Take it like aman, say your sorry for upsetting them and take your leave as politely as you can.

I think by showing Chris (The manager) that I was polite and not looking for a fight, she saw that just because I had a pistol did not make me a mean or confrontational person. Don't get me wrong, I was clear with her that I was unhappy with her choice, but I also conceeded with her desire to leave after a short and calm exchange.

They said store policy is no guns I said they were wrong and that corporate followed state law. They still escorted me out. I was polite and semi-non confrontational but I did leave.

One of our members here in VA has cards with pertinent firearms laws printed on it.

These can be helpful to give out. Also, search this forum for WalMart. They have been discussed ad nauseum in various states.

My opinion, if asked to leave, leave. Take it up with corporate later.
