Update:[sub][sup]

Due to the combined efforts of several individuals and groups, We, Open Carriers, have gained a step in our fight for Freedom and Liberty.

Woodman's has agreed to change their policy regarding Legal Open Carry. We are free to enter their store as we like. Pistol holstered and in the open. This has been verified by this site and ICarry.Org. Please thank Woodman's if you get the chance.

#######################################################

My wife and I went shopping at Woodman's tonight and had two managers confront us on the way to the exit. They told us, "Woodman's is NO GUNS ALLOWED!"

I asked if it was the corporate office's policy and they said yes. My wife, God Bless Her, said; "I don't believe I want to shop in a place that impedes our Constitutional Rights." To be fair, they both said that if it were up to them, they wouldn't be asking us to leave and they said it's not our fault, it's because of a few others.
They first said it was because they sell alcohol and they mumbled something about guns around their customers. My wife said; "I don't think it's right that we should have to pay for a few others so we'll shop elsewhere but thank you for being so polite about it."

They apparently knew I was carrying but didn't want to lose the sale. They looked the other way while we shopped for over two hours, followed us around the store (we noticed we had a couple of shadows straight out of a 007 flick) and; of course, they let us pay for our groceries first, before speaking to us. Kind of funny actually, Curiously, they were waiting for us by the door that we entered at. I would think that would indicate they knew which door we entered the store at. So I would also conclude they knew I was carrying from that point on.

So their policy is to get the money first. Then kick you to the curb. I guess my first carry there was a fluke. No one talked to me that time.

They do not display a sign "No Guns Allowed" so we should probably spread the word.

Or maybe hold a rally nearby with signs of our own that show Corporate Woodman's for what they are. Constitutional rights bashers. They think your money is fine but your rights are OK to trample on. When they do something like this, they are trampling on the American Flag. On the American Way of life and on the American People. I have had just about enough.

I for one will not be spending a dime there any longer. He said it didn't matter if we had spent a hundred or a thousand dollars today. This is Woodman's Policy.

I did have a great experience at Gander Mountain Where I open carried and purchased primers and boxes of ammo. Even at Gander Mountain, the two guys at the gun counter were transfixed on my sidearm. We also shopped at Walmart where we had a very nice time shopping and were not harassed by anyone.

I ran into bnhcomputing there and had a nice long conversation. Had a fellow stop and ask us why we were armed and we were able to explain our position to him. Just like Johnny Apple Seed, every time we plant a positive image it may sprout and bring forth positive fruit. I have to admit, it was very nice to have met a fellow Open Carrier. A first for me. I have felt like the Lone Ranger for a long time.

I sure wish there were more people who would open carry so it would be more comfortable for folks who see us and become accustomed to us and be less frightened and confused. Further, they would come to understand the Constitution and the history that has been buried by progressives for so long.

Our forefathers sacrificed everything for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights our futures and our fortunes rest on what these brave men gave us. They gave all. Their families, fortunes and their lives. All we have to do is carry to make our statement.

That's a bummer about your situation at Woodman's. My wife and I shop there after work (around midnight) about once a month, and I've had no problems carrying. But this is at the Woodman's in Appleton. I'd be interested in hearing more about this "corporate policy" but until I get told, I'll keep on carrying at Woodman's.

Then it shouldn't matter to him if you asked for a refund.

It is unfortunate that one of our members had such a disheartening experience, but at this point we believe it premature to attack the Woodman's organization. We, Wisconsin Carry, Inc. will be contacting the Woodman's Corporate Office and asking for clarification and explanation as to why one of our members was treated in this manner.

When one of our members had a similar issue with Best Buy, they wrote back ensuring us that Best Buy had no such policy, so we would urge restraint at this point.

Thank you and Carry On

I will be in La Crosse/Onalaska next weekend. I will be sure to do some shopping at Woodman's. I used to drive all the way to Onalaska JUST to shop as Woodman's.

I would have made a bee line to the customer service counter and demanded a refund. Let them put everything back on the shelf.

I would suggest contacting corporate to start and then go from there.

So their policy is to get the money first.

Like that everywhere unless you are being violent or too offensive.

When similar happened to me I told the manager I would like to return these items $142.00 worth and he escorted me to customer service and waited with me until The transaction was done.

if stores were smart, they would advertise in favor of legal open carry, actually want our business. Because then the word would spread & they would make more money, plus with customers OC in the store at all times, being robbed would become a thing of the past. soon your local market, would sell, gun cleaning kits, holsters & Ammo:D

I just called the corporate office (608) 754-8382 and spoke to Clint Woodman (I asked for the customer service manager). I asked what Woodman's Corporation policy was on open carry of firearms in Wisconsin? He told me that Woodman's does not permit the carrying of weapons in their stores. I asked "even though Wisconsin is an open carry state" and his response was "yes" It defenetly seemed like I was bothering him, and I should feel privilaged that he even spoke to me.

Take this information as you choose, I will no longre shop there.

I agree guys. We should have gotten a refund. But I tell ya, we were in La Crosse at Gunderson for my wife. She is a heart patient. And this was a bit more than she could deal with.

Even though she was a trooper and stood her ground and had my back. I didn't what to put her through that. IF I were alone, would have been different.

She said; Do you want to leave the groceries here and get a refund? but I said, No honey, let's just go.

We left and discussed things on the way home. Today, I called corporate Woodman's and recorded the phone conversation with Quint Woodman. I will post the transcript from that recording, later today. If I can figure out how to transfer from a tape recorder to a wave file I will post the recording online too. It was a very exciting phone call to be sure. Filled with twists, turns and revelations.

Quint was very cordial. Just like everyone we've ever met at Woodman's. Now is the time for all gun owners to take action. Stand up for your rights. This is a big deal. Our Second Amendment rights were taken from us. You'll hear the reasons way later when I post the conversation.

Your dollars and you as a person, apparently don't count for much at Woodman's. Your accepted at Walmart. To bad Woodman's is taking the wrong side of things. It is purely out of fear.

Never underestimate the power of maintaining the status quo. If the train is going along fairly smooth, few people will make a decision that alters that course - maybe for the better - but also maybe for the worse, unless they have to.

In this case, they're probably thinking it's best to do nothing new, i.e. no change in the normal flow, and it might annoy a small number of people- but it won't be a result of a proactive decision, more of a lack of decision. However, should they say ok to carry and many start to carry, that's a noticeable change some people will be unhappy about. And the first question will be "who the hell made the decision to allow this?". It's basically CYA.

I see the no decision-decision all too often, unfortunately.

OK then. We now have an "official" word from a Woodman, "DON'T EXERCISE YOUR RIGHTS HERE!"

Don't worry there Woodman, I won't.

It is now time for the members of this forum to take a stand. I will be spreading the word to EVERYONE I know that Woodman's is anti carry and encourage them to take their business elsewhere.

BOYCOTT Wodman's, BOYCOTT Wodman's, BOYCOTT Wodman's

I say START TODAY.

Here is the Woodman's site. http://www.woodmans-food.com/

Everybody should send them a letter telling them we are urging everybody we know to BOYCOTT their stores.

We should also send those letters to EVERY store. When a store manager is getting reamed a new hind quarter for not making sales quota, he/she should have 1000 letters showing why. If we can get a fax number, run the fax out of paper with letters.

Let's get the ICarry guys in on this as well, Woodman's has three stores in IL, so let's go...

I read the transcript of hardballer's conversation posted here: http://rightspokenhere.blogspot.com/

These guy REALLY DON'T give a dam.

If people are picketing the stores, that get's MEDIA attention...Woodmans don't want negative press. we should pick a date in early March, picket every store on that date. it would give us time to organize this & get press releases out.

Just an idea.

Here is my opinion, one ortwo people picketinga store will be viewed as a couple of weirdos. A picket LINE is what we need. I dont know if we have enough members to create picket LINES at each store. We need to pick a store, central location in a larger metropolitan setting (more press) and picket that location. We also have to make sure its on public property, so Woodmanscant have us arrested for trespassing. That means we may not be able to carry if there is a school around. It needs to be organized and professional. If successful we may need to continue picking locations and picketing them. There is strength in numbers, and we need to be perceived as a united group, not a bunch of wackos.
