According to SAK (from his posting at icarry.org), he talked to Clint about it, and they have decided to allow carrying as long as it is in a legal manner. He said it was because of all of the calls complaining about hardballer being kicked out that he changed his mind.

While I personally have not confirmed this, I trust Shaun's information.

I would say Phil Woodman CEO was informed about the situation and had a little discussion with the boys. He is a helluva good man and his #1 priority is his customers.

Great job by all that did call to let them know what we want to see. Of those that did call, a quick "thanks" e-mailmight be a nice idea. It sure is a good feeling to see people change the way they look at this issue.

For every angry letter we were going to write, we should write/call them thanking them for clarifying and supporting our rights.

I just did, and let them know that I had never heard of them until this week, and I plan to do my grocery shopping there from now on.

Appleton Woodman's

Hi folks,
I was just in the Appleton Woodman's, OC'ing, and I felt like I had a tail (turns out I did). When I got up to the register, a guy flashed a badge at me, upon which I barely had time to read "Security." He informed me that Woodman's has a no-weapons policy. He had an irate-looking manager with him, and the security guy escorted me to my car after I'd made my purchase. The policy is on a small poster (18"x24" or so) on the service desk, and it reads, "No concealed firearms or weapons are allowed…" etc. Personally, I take that to mean no concealed weapons, including firearms, are allowed. They seemed to disagree. There are no signs on any doors; if you never passed by the service desk, you'd never know the policy.

I will say, though, the security guy was really polite about it. I asked him to show me the policy, and he obliged. I commented that I never saw it posted there before (and I've been by that desk many times, which goes to show just how much "notice" they post). I thought to myself that the location was great if you knew what you were looking for and happened by the service desk, which is far from guaranteed — there are probably a half dozen paths one could take and never see the service desk.

Their website… well, let's face it. I don't think they've changed the format since the world wide web was born. There are no "about" pages, no policy pages, no news feed pages. It's a single page with the addresses and phone numbers of all the stores, as well as the corporate office in Janesville.

So tell me, internet, who's correct, and who's not? Help me, internet! You're my only hope! :confused:

No concealed weapons is state law, for now. Sounds like there has to be some top management to management communication that open carry is accordance with state law.

I shop Woodmans in Onalaska nearly every week. I have had nothing but the finest courtesy each and every time. No tails, no shadows no pains in the butt! The worse thing I've experienced has been the boxes in the aisles from restocking. I sometime shop 6-8 pm but nearly always midnight or so. Maybe there is a "NEW" head of security or a manager that knows nothing about open carry. I try to carry at least 1 WCI flyer with me when I go shopping.

So what does this all do to OC at Woodmans? I don't shop at the place at this time, and now I have no idea what the store is thinking. You would think by now that I would have gotten used to this...
Well if I have the time to make the trip to the new one in my area, I'll let ya know if I run into any problems. I am stocked for the game, so it might be a few days...

A call to the Appleton store's manager to first verify their deviation from corporates policy is in order. If you are stonewalled or otherwise unsatisfied with the answer, a call to the main office in; I think it is Janesville, would then be in order. Failing that, a call or email to Hubert or Nik would be good.

This should not be allowed to slide by.

The guy probably is a rent-a-cop from a 3d party security firm, but that's normal in Wisconsin; before I was in the USAF, I worked for one such firm that did contracts for Menards security. This guy (can't remember his name for the life of me) was knowledgeable of the law — he commented that the manner in which I was carrying was exactly legal, but that Woodman's has a no-weapons policy. I agree that there probably needs to be some communication from the corporate office to the management at the Appleton Woodman's to clarify their policy, though I've seen that very manager there for years.

Interesting. I thought Woodman's was a settled deal. I carry in Woodman's East in Madison all the time without problems.

Probably this is a misinformed or rogue store in Appleton. I've never noticed any postings in the two Madison Woodman's.

Woodmans security is hired by an outside firm. They are either "rent a cops" or "cop wanta be's". I was stopped in the Onalaska store by a "wanta be" and was told that I couldn't carry there because they sold alcohol. I inquired where he got this information: he stated that he's going to start school in a few months ( taking Police Science) and got the information off the internet.

I explained to "Wanta be" that he should go back to the internet and read some more, also he should talk with the manager. I'd talked with the manager personally and that Woodman's followed state law, and by state law I was not breaking any laws.

Get the individuals name, and ask to talk to the store manager asap.

When confronted like that, give the cart to the manager. Record the manager's name and call corporate right away. And I pray that the cart has lots of stuff in it. That manager will think twice if he has to put merchanse BACK on the shelves.

I've had many positive encounters with manager staff at the onalaska store. They say HI to me each time they see me and always ask if they can help. ( I shop there lots).
