    2010 NRA Youth Education Summit
    Application Deadline - March 1st

The National Rifle Association is currently accepting applications from outstanding high school sophomores and juniors to participate in its annual Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.) July 12 – 18, 2010.

The national Y.E.S. was launched in 1996 in an effort to encourage America's youth to become active and knowledgeable citizens. The Summit is a seven-day leadership week in Washington, DC. Each year, the NRA selects the best and the brightest students to visit the nation's capital where participants learn the significance of the U. S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights while developing an understanding of federal government and the importance of active participation.

Current high school sophomores and juniors with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) are eligible to apply. The application deadline for the 2010 Summit is March 1, 2010 and applications must be submitted online. The application process is highly competitive and consists of a Second Amendment essay, personal statement, high school transcript and three recommendations.

Stillwater Firearms Association, Fallon, encourages all Nevada high school sophomores and juniors to apply and will fund round-trip airfare for any Nevada student selected to attend.

Each year, Y.E.S. participants also compete for up to $30,000 in college scholarship awards. The first round of awards is given at the conclusion of Y.E.S. and is comprised of $10,000. Participants are judged based on their initial application, on-site debates and participation during the week. Multiple students receive scholarships in the first round and the total number of students selected dictates how much each student will receive. The sum of all first round scholarships is no greater than $10,000.

The second round of scholarship awards can also be given to multiple students or to only one student. It is comprised of $20,000 and involves a second application, available to the participants after they complete the summit. This scholarship is referred to as the Grand Scholarship. Since the program's inception in 1996, over $200,000 in scholarships have been awarded.

Crack that whip on them! 3.0 in NV schools shouldn't be a hard goal to reach.
