Reminder: We are meeting at the Fremont Street Experience at 7pm Saturday Jan 30, at the corner of Fremont & Main between the Golden Gate and Las Vegas Club.

This is KID FRIENDLY as well assuming you aren't going to be gambling. There are two live music stages:

7-11 pm "Man on the Street" @ 3rd St
7-11 pm "Carl Ferris - Solo Saxophone" @ Casino Center

    Plus the overhead light show:

7:00 - 7:15 Bad to the Bone - a motorcycle ride to the tunes of George Thorogood.
    8:00 - 8:15 Area 51 - aliens visit Vegas!
    9:00 - 9:15 American Pie - Celebration of Don Mclean's 1971 hit
    10:00 - 10:15 Tribute to Queen
    11:00 - 11:15 KISS Over Vegas

We'll all meet up and greet each other and then probably just go our separate ways and enjoy the evening. With the relatively small

Remember, Fremont St and the sidewalks around it are public property and you cannot be asked to leave if you're doing nothing wrong. However, the casinos are private property and if you do go into any, you should leave immediately if asked. I did visit three downtown casinos last weekend while OC and was not asked to leave any of them. However, it was also 6am, the crowds were completely gone and security was reduced.

Also, just a point of caution. If you wind up standing close to the stages or find yourself staring up at the light show, please be aware of your surroundings. Whether you subscribe to the "Condition Yellow" philosophy, in any environment with the potential for shoulder-to-shoulder people, just be cautious.

Can't wait to see you all!

    Tim

It was another uneventful night. Listened to music, walked around enjoying the sights, and went to dinner afterwards.. You know the way it should be!

One of the guys even went and gambled.. BTW i wonder how that went.

Yeah it was pretty uneventful. The only thing I ran into was the no firearms sign at Main Street station. And I didn't notice it till I picked up my car from valet. :?

So that is one place I will not go to again. Although I have to admit that's the first time I've been down to Fremont street besides work in a long time.

I always found that sign humorous. "For homeland security..." ??? Right. Gee, if we only had the foresight to put up a sign in the cockpit "No running into buildings".... I have a sneaking suspicion that terrorists probably won't pay much attention to their sign.

No kiding. And it seems like they should get in some sort of trouble for the sign acting official when it is not. People see the sign and think "oh the gov and this casino are looking out for me. Glad no weapons are in that place. Lets go gamble."

We went to the Foothills Express Casino. It's more of a bar/ restaurant. Located on Rainbow just south of Washington. And yes they are very OC friendly. The waitress was messing with MPlannette asking him if his was a plastic squirt gun. :P You know sense he has that boyish look about him.

haha, I must of missed that. I was a tad late. BTW did you notice that one of the guys who worked there was listening to like 20 minutes of our conversation.

Oh another thing. I went around town today to some auto parts stores OC with no issues.

My wife and I gambled inside of Fitzgerald's. No problems. One of the machines jammed, so we had to call the slot tech over. He sits at the machine right next to me, strong side facing him, opens it up and makes his repair. No problems.

Then on our way back to the group, we had to use the restroom and stopped inside Four Queens, where two security guards made eye contact, noticeably observed my weapon, and then, ignoring us, went back to checking out the girls and laughing with each other.

When the group broke up, my wife and I had dinner at Hennessey's Tavern. I OC'd in there no problem. Strong side was facing the restaurant, impossible to miss. My wife's corn beef & cabbage was way undercooked and the potatoes and cabbage were hard as rock, so our complaint to the manager brought him our way too. No mention of it, no problem.

On the way back to our car on the complete opposite end of Fremont St Experience, police presence was MUCH higher than earlier. Lots of bicycle cops out, they all left me alone. Then we went out to Foothills to meet the rest of the crew before breaking apart again.

Thanks Don't Tread on Me for noticing my nearly expired tags... It was prophetic brother. Not one hour later did I get pulled over for expired tags. Apparently the sticker "01/10" doesn't mean you have till the end of the month, it just means they expire SOME TIME during the month, in my case 01/13. Ooops! $190 ticket.... Went to the smog place this morning at 8:30 AM and it's now all registered and legal. Anyway, the cop asked me "Any weapons in the vehicle?" and going against my own advice, I answered. I said "I open carry." He didn't ask me to get out of the car, show a blue card, or act at all worried about me being an armed citizen. He didn't even call for backup.

    The word is "smile."

No problems with tourists running away screaming about our handguns. Lots of people around on this Saturday night, and a lot of them noticed us carrying as they walked by. Nobody looked scared or said a word.

The only noteworthy thing I saw was a group of three guys, about age 30, who stood off about 10 yards and watched us while talking on their cellphones. All on their phones at the same time initially, then they seemed to be taking turns being on the line.

Pretty obvious to me that they were calling 911 about "men with guns" and giving updates on our (non)activities. Metro never showed up. My guess is that the 911 operators are dealing better with such calls (ataboy Tim!). After about 15 minutes of constantly facing toward us and making eye contact, the three guys walked away.

I didn't go any further than the Golden Gate after we split. Thought I'd check out what was new inside, because the outside was different. They/d put a walk-up bar on the sidewalk selling a half dozen flavors of Marguaritas. While the light show played on the overhead canopy, a couple of scantily dressed girls danced on the bar. Didn't the subject change to talking about bird hunting at about that time?

Inside was much the same, with the two girls coming in and dancing on some up-high little stages in the middle of the gaming pits. Did I mention that I love Las Vegas?

I shot craps (in the traditional way) for about half an hour before giving it up as a bad night. Security walked by me a couple of times, but nobody said anything. Couple of other players noticed, just a single glance and than back to losing-as-usual. Did I mention that I hate Las Vegas?

Hey, Tim.....next time, take me to a looser joint.

Not to argue, but it is my gut feeling that METRO didn't recieve any 911 calls or they would have used that as anexcuse to try to intimidate us too "move"

However, that brings up an excellent point, if I get the chance I will go to LVMPD comunnications center tomorrow and try to obtain any CAD report, containing a (man with a gun)on fremont. would be nice to know.

Great guys! Glad it went well.

So I'm talking to CCW instructor, and he states that Metro could charge you with distrubing the peace, taking your gun, ect all based on how much of an ******* the cop wants to be. I know it has been discussed elsewhere, but any word on this?

Metro should choose an overall strategy. Right now, I think they have two options:

    1. Hassle open carry citizens, with the goal of intimidating them to stop. This runs the risk of creating greater push-back from cits who stand up for our rights (hoorah to Tim!!)..

    2. Ignore those who OC, with the goal of letting the dust settle and for cits to stop pushing back. This runs the risk of an increasing number of people deciding to open carry instead of being controlled by, and paying fees for, the CCW system.

I think it is a win/win for us as long as we stick to our principles. It'll just take time to get Metro to realize we have rights they can't revise unilaterally. NOT making a choice is unfair to their officers and to the cits. I'm prepared to be hassled or ignored for as long as it takes for Metro to reach a consensus.

BTW, I'm also conflicted about getting a CCW for NV. I moved to Las Vegas in October from Kalifornia. There, I got CCW's for CA and UT. It was a totally aggravating time-consuming and expensive experience. Imagine my delight to finding out about periodic re-qualification and fees for renewals. Do I really want to go through this all over again? While I sort out my feelings on this, you'll see me OCing wherever I go. I've yet to decide what to do about my self defense if/when I have to go into a gun free place. So far, DMV was not a problem, but sooner or later.....

Please give us this guys name. I am tired of the CCW instructors handing out what they "think" is correct info.
