I'm stuck in MD (I came up Friday afternoon, for a traffic court date Monday, but the courts were closed in Montgomery County...) and we went to the grocery store in Owings Mill this afternoon to get some provisions. On the way, we passed a Starbucks, and I commented to my sweety, thinking about the "Starbucks Buzz" that's been on this forum for the last few days, " I doubt THAT Starbucks is OC-friendly..."
And then I realized just how bad things are here in MD.
Although I live in NC, I have family here in MD and I travel here often. I hate doing the "border dance" whenever I come to visit--I can carry in ALL the surrounding states (VA, NC, WV, PA) with the exception of MD and DC, and I find it moraly offensive that MD doesn't see fit to recognize my human right of self defense, NOR does it recognize the TWO different permits I have--a NC CHP and a PA LTCF.
I'm doing everything I can to help you folks up here--contacting Representatives and Senators, writing letters ad offering to testify in support of 2A-positive bills, even volunteering to help organize protests and rallies if y'all are interested. I'm a graphic designer with over 20 years experience--I can also help y'all put together some flyers or cards to hand out if you want!
I hope we can get things changed here in MD. I fear for the safety of my wife (who is working up here on a temporary assignment), my two brilliant stepdaughters, and my beautiful new granddaughter. It breaks my heart to know that if I want to stay within the law in MD, I have to leave my firearms at home, locked up, and that I am forbidden by the State and various municipalities from protecting my family if some criminal, thug, or mentally disturbed violent person should attack us. I wish my lovely family would just move to VA, but for some strange reason they are very attached to MD...
Again, I'll say, I'll do anything I can to help you folks out up here. I'm in the Gaithersburg area about once a month. Maybe next time I'm up here, we can arrange an "empty holster" dinner somewhere, or get together a day where we can go to Annapolis to talk with various Reps about the issues. I just want to help get SOMETHING going up here.
It seems that the State and Local governments have slipped off the gloves, and pulled on the heavy boots here in MD, and so I understand why folks may be reluctant to "engage the system". Even though the State is on record as saying that the 2A doesn't apply here in MD, I don't think they've rescinded the 1A yet, so we can still wear t-shirts, carry signs or hand out flyers to promote the cause of 2A freedom here in Maryland.
Keep up the good work folks--I know its an uphill battle, but with the help of your friends and neighbors in the "free states" to your North, East, and South, you WILL get the folks in Annapolis to listen to the will of the People!
Carry On...
