I'm stuck in MD (I came up Friday afternoon, for a traffic court date Monday, but the courts were closed in Montgomery County...) and we went to the grocery store in Owings Mill this afternoon to get some provisions. On the way, we passed a Starbucks, and I commented to my sweety, thinking about the "Starbucks Buzz" that's been on this forum for the last few days, " I doubt THAT Starbucks is OC-friendly..."

And then I realized just how bad things are here in MD.

Although I live in NC, I have family here in MD and I travel here often. I hate doing the "border dance" whenever I come to visit--I can carry in ALL the surrounding states (VA, NC, WV, PA) with the exception of MD and DC, and I find it moraly offensive that MD doesn't see fit to recognize my human right of self defense, NOR does it recognize the TWO different permits I have--a NC CHP and a PA LTCF.

I'm doing everything I can to help you folks up here--contacting Representatives and Senators, writing letters ad offering to testify in support of 2A-positive bills, even volunteering to help organize protests and rallies if y'all are interested. I'm a graphic designer with over 20 years experience--I can also help y'all put together some flyers or cards to hand out if you want!

I hope we can get things changed here in MD. I fear for the safety of my wife (who is working up here on a temporary assignment), my two brilliant stepdaughters, and my beautiful new granddaughter. It breaks my heart to know that if I want to stay within the law in MD, I have to leave my firearms at home, locked up, and that I am forbidden by the State and various municipalities from protecting my family if some criminal, thug, or mentally disturbed violent person should attack us. I wish my lovely family would just move to VA, but for some strange reason they are very attached to MD...

Again, I'll say, I'll do anything I can to help you folks out up here. I'm in the Gaithersburg area about once a month. Maybe next time I'm up here, we can arrange an "empty holster" dinner somewhere, or get together a day where we can go to Annapolis to talk with various Reps about the issues. I just want to help get SOMETHING going up here.

It seems that the State and Local governments have slipped off the gloves, and pulled on the heavy boots here in MD, and so I understand why folks may be reluctant to "engage the system". Even though the State is on record as saying that the 2A doesn't apply here in MD, I don't think they've rescinded the 1A yet, so we can still wear t-shirts, carry signs or hand out flyers to promote the cause of 2A freedom here in Maryland.

Keep up the good work folks--I know its an uphill battle, but with the help of your friends and neighbors in the "free states" to your North, East, and South, you WILL get the folks in Annapolis to listen to the will of the People!

Carry On...

What I think would be effective is, get as many educated Marylanders from all ethnic backgrounds and all occupations and publicly DEMAND a meeting with the top MDSP officials.

Enter a large meeting room and DEMAND they give us a reason why MD residents are not "priviliged" enough to get a CHL.

They need to look us in our eyes god damnit!

Enough of handling this with velvet gloves. I think we need to really start getting under the skin of the MDSP.

Protest outside of the MDSP headquarters. Hell, even outside of the CLEO house if we have to! (100% legally of course)
Its time we stop fighting this on the defensive, and start with an offensive battle.

I have it from a VERY good source that the issues with the MSP are not entirely the fault of the MSP. The Superintendent of the MSP is an appointed position, selected by the Governor. My "inside source" tells me that the current Governor of MD (O'Malley) essentially tells the AG and the MSP what position he wants them to take, and they parrot that, regardless of how legal, ethical, or moral it is...

O'Malley was Mayor of Baltimore (Bulletmore) before he was Governor of Maryland (Murderland). He has a long and illustrious history of being virulently anti-2A, and has openly displayed his disdain for the US Constitution and the rights and safety of the ordinary citizens of MD for decades.

The courts in MD also have a long histor of being anti-2A, and have even ruled that the 2A doesn't apply in MD, so it's actually established case law there. The fact that MD has no RKBA clause in it's state constitution doesn't help.

I've outlined how MD has ALWAYS been a fiefdom ruled by self-appointed elitist snobs sho view their citizenry as a gang of rabble and serfs. This isn't new--it's been the general political climate in MD since the Colonial period.

Although such a meeting with MSP would be an interesting exercise, but I doubt it would be productive on any level, other than to give us the satisfaction of knowing first hand that they really DO consider us to be serfs, and that their position is essentially based on the "marching orders" issued from Annapolis.

But it might make for a VERY interesting press event, and I for one would LOVE a copy of any video that was made of such an event.

I understand that as a non-resident, my personal opinions don't carry much weight with MD government. But I think that many of the folks in MD--even pro-2A folks--have been so brow-beaten for so long that there's jus tnot much spark left. There is a small, vocal contingency of active pro-2A people in MD, but their numbers are small. You see the same people, over and over agian, showing up at protests, testifying before the GA, and writting LTEs. I just feel that an injection of new ideas and energy from outside--beond the reach of the propaganda machines of Annapolis and Pikesville--might be good for the movement in MD, and might help to wake people up to just how messed up things are there, and might shed some light on just how evil the lies are that they are constantly bombarded with, emitting from Annapolis and Pikesville...

MD is a strange place. It's got a lot of highly educated people from all over the country living there, but once they cross the state line, it's like some sort of mind-control rays are blanketing the entire state. I am FIRMLY convinced that they really are putting something in the water up there--there's no other explanation for the weird beliefs that many citizens of maryland hold...

If there is ANYTHING I can do to help out I'll do my best. I have a vested interest in MD--I have two daughters and a beautiful new stepdaughter living there. Wen I visit them, I want to be able to protect them (and myself) from the growing criminal element (and I'm not talking about the criminals in the State House). The fact that I essentially have to "leave my guns at the border" when I travel there is an affront to my dignity as a father, a husband, a grandfather, and a slap in my face as a United States citizen.

I'm willing to help out in any way I can to change that.

I grew up in Baltimore city until the age of 21. So I know all about how MD works.
My family still owns some property in MD, so I would have some "sway" at said meeting.

I know my mindset is very different than most gun owners and I am very confrontational about my rights.

This whole game of "wait and lets see" that gun owners have been playing for the past 30 years has got us nowhere.

In my own personal opinion, its time to put the fear of god into these politicians and useless law enforcement officers and agencies.
They work FOR US.

If I had my way, I would get a large group of us and say "guess what F- your laws. We are going to carry concealed regardless. Our personal security and the security of our family is far more important than your MDSP ego's"

I wonder what the MDSP response to that would be lets say, if 1/4 or even 1/3 of the population of law abiding Maryland did that.

Well, here is my guess about what they'd do.

Nothing, if you didn't have to use it.

Because if you are CCing correctly, nobody would ever know.

But if, god forbid, you actually had to unholster your firearm and use it outside of your own personal property in defense, I know EXACTLY what they would do.

They would confiscate your firearm, arrest you, get a search warrant for your home, go there and take all the REST of your firearms and your computer, and then charge you with criminal conspiracy to break MD firearms laws, and POTENTIALLY they could charge you under the Patriot Act for sedition and conspiracy to overthrow the government.

Never mind the fact that the thug you had to shoot in defense probably had a recrod a mile long. Never mind the fact that you had an audio and video recording of the entire attack. Never mind the fact that it was YOU who made the first 911 call. Never mind the fact that you were defending yourself, your wife, or your children against an armed, drugged-up known gang member.

In MD, the State only recognises TWO classes of people who carry guns:
Police and Criminals.
If you're not wearing a badge, then by default, under the MD legal system, you automatically fall into the second category, no matter how righteous your actions...

And like I've said before, this is NOT a new political climate in MD. It's been this way since MD was still a colony. MD was a "Royal Charter Province"--property given to an individual by the British Crown--and the ruling elite of MD have ALWAYS though--since 1629--that the state of MD belongs to the folks who sit in the State House, and that all the "ordinary people" who live there are their subjects, and live in MD at the whim of the ideological descendants of George Calvert, 1st Lord Baltimore...

I pray for our brothers and sisters in MD. And I pray that the folks in Annapolis will wake up soon and bring MD in line with the rest of the Union, before the neighboring states realize that MD is a dangerous enclave of Fabian Socialism, and build a Berlin-like wall completely around it's border to shelter themselves from contamination...

Ileft Baltimore's burbsa week after my 17th B'day. As some of you know (or will) I write cowboy poetry... 'n this is a 'piece' of that... about 'that':

'Cowboy Attitude'

<snip>

The place I was born was in Baltimore City

A strange sort’a town that can be rough and gritty

Politically ruined, althothat's a pity

No wonder I didn’t stay there

When I was a kid I could never relate

To my family and neighbors who thought it so great

I had to get out, before it’s too late

I’d hate to become one of ‘them

I joined the Navy when I turned seventeen

To go out in the world ‘n see what all’s to be seen

I cut the cord early, if ya know what I mean

‘Cause I never belonged with that bunch

 <snip>

I’d sailed ‘round the world when I was 21

As a Third Class Aviation Ordnanceman

While the guys ‘back home’ ideasof fun

Was still the drive-in on Saturday night

At 22, I’d been off to war

‘Came home on leave to ol' Baltimore

Oh… I didn’t belong ‘there’ for sure

I might as well have come from the Moon

 <snip>

This was from yesterdays 'Supapers Forum'

Rights exist if there were no government at all. These are the 'inalienable rights' penned by Jefferson. Rights are 'recognized' by government, not given.
Rights are to be protected and defended... (or) denied. Denial of a civil right is authoritative tyranny. Government does not have 'rights'... government has authority.

The 'people in other states' have the right to bear arms in self defense. Actually... the majority 'other states'. Maryland is an anomoly in this regard. As the Maryland State Constitution contains no privisio for self defense as per the language of the 2nd Amendment; the 2nd Amendment (USC) applies. This is NOT as some would claim pre-empted by the 10th Amendment as the 'right' has clearly been pre-recognized and enumerated prior.

The main reason for this omission was the MD Constitutional Convention of 1867 in advance of the passage of 14th Amendment which would have allowed former slaves to bear arms. In essence... this omission was an intentional extention of Jim Crow.

To 'simply propose a bill' is a politically naive statement regarding the MD General Assembly. 'He wants(?)' No... what thousands of Marylanders want. The free exercise of the rights of all citizens. 'The Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms, Shall Not be Infringed.'
MD is a 'may issue' state... which is to say Joe Sixpack ain't gettin a CCW permit. I'm not all that keen on permits... MD should be OC by virtue of 2A USC period. It won't happen with the socialst nanny jerks they keep electing there tho.

First things first: I know my sig shows that I'm in Vancouver, WA, but I'm actually a college student here in Baltimore, MD. I've been going to school here for the past 3.5 years, and MD's CC/OC laws seriously frustrate me.

My place of work is quite near downtown Baltimore (well, the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, to be precise) and more than once I've had to go down there on a late Sunday evening. Now I'm not saying Baltimore is "more sketchy" than other large cities, but quite a LOT of places that I've had to drive through gives me the chills and made me really with that I had my gun with me, instead of it being locked up at home.
