[align=center]This poll does not require anyone to reply below.
I only ask that you vote for why you carry a firearm.

protect anyone and everyone from harm (Even when your life is NOT threatened)

protect yourself, friends, and family (This choice includes being in a group setting like a classroom, where your life is threatened)

protect only yourself

I think you need to word it a bit more specifically.

Gang bangers duking it out, let em destroy each other, they are looking for trouble.

HOWEVER, if there is any risk to any other innocent person nearby, stop it.

I Open Carry carry to protect the right. This is why those that say you don't need one there (at Obama rally) or Long Guns are inappropriate there (inside city limits) IMHO miss the point. I carry because I can and because a right unexercised is a right lost. I've already lost enough rights. I don't intend on losing the RKBA.

There is, IMHO, a deterrent effect upon the evildoers when they see my firearms, but protection or deterrenceis a side benefit, notmy reason for Open Carry.

swatspyder, I think you're missing a point here. There is a HUGE difference between going around carrying a gun thinking you're Rambo out to stop every last crime in the city (protect anyone and everyone from harm), and merely doing what you can as an individual to assist someone who's life is immediately threatened right then & there.

If I'm somewhere and a dozen thugs with assault rifles burst in to rob the place that's one thing, standing by while someone is beaten/stabbed/shot to death right in front of me is completely different.

I voted number one, with the understanding, as others have mentioned, that we're referring to the innocent. I'm not looking for trouble, but if I can tell who the actors are and one of them is clearly innocent and in mortal danger I'd like to think I'd intervene.

+1 to both of you.

Sorry, I will not vote in this poll. The questions are flawed.

I carry to protect myself, my family first and foremost. I carry to be a deterrent to others. I carry to show that it is normal, that it is ok and there are more responsible gun owners than criminals. I would protect the life of someone else if it was in clear danger, but that is not why I carry.

Why I Have a Gun

My old grandpa said to me, "Son, there comes a time in every man's
life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and
usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'."

I don't have a gun to kill people. I have a gun to keep from being
killed.

I don't have a gun to scare people. I have a gun because sometimes
this world can be a scary place.

I don't have a gun because I'm paranoid. I have a gun because there
are real threats in the world.

I don't have a gun because I'm evil. I have a gun because I have
lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't have a gun because I hate the government. I have a gun
because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't have a gun because I'm angry. I have a gun so that I don't
have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be
prepared.

I don't have a gun because I want to shoot someone. I have a gun
because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a
sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't have a gun because I'm a cowboy. I have a gun because, when
I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't have a gun to make me feel like a man. I have a gun because
men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't have a gun because I feel inadequate. I have a gun because
unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't have a gun because I love it. I have a gun because I love
life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

"Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect
themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just
investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to
clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old
to take an ass whoopin'.
