Meridian police say it appears a 20-year-old Nicholas Bacon shot and killed his 8-month-old son Bekm then killed himself at a home in the 500 block of S. Pelican Way Monday night.Both Bekm and Nicholas Bacon were killed by gunshot wounds to the head, according to Ada County Coroner's reports.
Meridian police were sent to the home in the Franklin/Linder roads neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. Monday after Nicholas Bacon's estranged wife called to report he was making "suicidal and homicidal" threats.
When police arrived at the home, they were not able to contact Bacon by phone and there was no answer at the door. Police then entered the home through the garage and found the bodies of Bacon and his 8-month-old son in the living room.
The baby was the child of Nicholas Bacon and his 19-year-old wife, who had recently separated. The woman was not at the home when the shootings occurred. She was in contact with her husband by phone when he made the threats, Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said.
There was no previous record of domestic disturbance with the couple or any other calls from the Pelican Way home, Basterrechea said.
The case is still under investigation. Detectives continue to interview family members and friends of the couple to see if there were any indications towards such extreme violent behavior prior to Monday, Basterrechea said.
This is the second murder/suicide case Meridian Police have investigated in less than a month.
Meridian police found the bodies of Marshall Roscoe Smith, 91, and Reva Mae Smith, 75, at the home in the 200 block of East Calderwood Street Jan. 28.
Officials say evidence indicates Marshall Smith shot Reva Smith with a handgun and then turned the gun on himself.
There was no history of domestic violence at the residence and police have no record of having contact with either Smith, police officials said last month.
