A family friend owns a Savage 99C chambered in .308, he said the bore isn't in that great of shape and is unsure if it's fit to be fired.

Can anyone here take a look at it, or tell me how to detach the barrel?

Suggestions for gunsmiths are also appreciated.

If it is a takedown model, open the action and on the bottom of the receiver at the front edge, there is a "tab" that needs to be pressed. then rotate the barrel clockwise when looking at it from the butt. It can be difficult to rotate.

I do not think the 99C came in a takedown though.

Check w/ a gunsmith
