This happened yesterday. Read the story, and then scroll down and listen to the actual 911 audio tape.
Robber walks into a store, points a starter pistol at the 70 year old clerk, and demands money.
Clerk then pulls out his REAL gun, and tells the robber to get on the floor. Yelling ensues- the robber flees, and the clerk shoots out the rear tire, and the windows out of the car, ensuring that he doesn't hit the robber in the process.
In Michigan, it's illegal for a private citizen to shoot a fleeing felon (See People v. Couch, 436 Mich. 414, 461 N.W.2d 683 (1990) )
In this case, I cannot for the life of me see a local jury who would convict the clerk, however.

P.S. Suspect robber is now in jail. Thanks to a third person seeing it all go down, and following the fleeing robber while talking to 911, and giving officers directions to find the felon.
