Anyone know this on a county or PD basis?
I have only seen King. I would love to have a breakdown by county for the whole state. I am sure there must be a way to contact the DOL and get the breakdown. I think they should post the raw numbers on the state web site.

King is...

Seattle Times[/i] reports;” According to the state Department of Licensing, there are 238,994 concealed-weapons permits in the state, 48,838 in King County.” http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/reply.php?topic_id=39110&post_id=675920&quote=1#_edn1

Did I just read 28% of people in Washington have a license to carry a concealed pistol?
What?

Population of Washington in 2007 was 6,468,464
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004986.html

License holders in 2007 numbered 258,000
Per citation above on this thread.

258,000 divided by 6,468,464 = 0.039886 or approximately 4% of the population has a license to carry.

Even figuring that 25% of the population is below the age to acquire a license, this would only yield 5.32% of the adult population.

Actually Grapeshot, your figures include those under the age of 18.

The population of adults in Washington (18+) is actually about 5,050,000, which would make the percentage of adults with CPLs just a hair above 5%.

Now, as we all know, those 18-20 cant have a CPL (yet ;)) so that figure would actually be a percentage point or two more for adults 21+ in Washington who have a CPL.

I wasn't able to find a population figure that would give me accurate numbers for the 18-20 age crowd, but I believe it is somewhere in the mix of 200,000 - 400,000 people.

Cheers! :)
Nope - figures exclude those under 18 years and adjusted some for the gap from 18 - 20 years.

Persons under 18 years old, percent, 2008........... 23.5%
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004986.html

My population figures are taken from 2007 figures to be consistent with date of license data.

Just explaining where I got my figures - not arguing, no offense intended.

Whether 4%, 5% or 6% - the number in my mind is significant - just not 28%.

Yata hey
Ok, I understand I think.

Your intention was to give a relative percentage based on total population and not just adults 18+?

I just wrote the State DOL and received a response by county.

Here: http://forum.nwcdl.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;id=55

[size=As you requested here is the list of the number of current CPL’s by county. Also so you are aware that [b]we are in a backlog in recording CPL’s issued by law enforcement around the state. So, the number you see is always in flux up or down, mostly up in our current case.]

KING 50,500
So, according to 2008 census data for population of King, Snohomish & Spokane Countys, percentage of adults 21+ that have a CPL according to my math....

King = about 3.5%

Snohomish = about 4.8%

Spokane = about 5.5%

Lower than the state average on King and Snohomish. :(

FMCDH, I think that one reason for the lower percentage figures in urban areas is the larger proportional number of people who are not self reliant. I would call cities basically socialist in general because people turn to others for their needs, where country people are conservative. They have something to conserve, often real property, and are more independent and self reliant. They have to be.

I believe that, in general, they have a better understanding of life as a whole. They often have crops to sell, and have a basic understanding of economics that's lacking in people whose only understanding of markets is Larry's Market. I think they have a better understanding of life itself, based upon the fact they have much greater involvement with animals. They see the whole cycle of procreation, growth, and death.

Working counter to the above is the fact that there is less crime in the country, at least in the perception of many, myself included.
