We're moving back to MD (likely eastern Balto Co.) from CO (open carry) after being gone 15 years. I can't believe what I'm reading here! When did the Brownshirts take over?

I'm seriously considering shipping my guns back via Fed Ex so I don't have anything in my truck or trailer. Sounds like I'm going to be pulled over repeatedly in MD for running CO plates. Sure is going to be tough keeping my mouth shut while my rights are being violated.

I'd reconsider that move if you don't have to. You will NOT be a happy camper there. The 2A and 6A in particular have become meaningless in practice. I'm an 'escapee' from that particular socialist hole myself.

The 4A is on it's way out in MD too...

As for the 2A, the AG, MSP and Govorner O'Malley have already stated that they don't care about Heller, and they will not voluntarily abide by McDonald without being forced through a Federal lawsuit to do so.

If I were you, I would SERIOUSLY consider living in VA, WV or PA if you can. MD is an openly fascist enclave, and the brash criminality of the state and local governments (in the urban areas, at least) is mind-boggling...

After living in a "free state" like CO, you're going to think you've moved to the Soviet Union if you move to the Baltimore area of MD.

Heck, I'd venture a guess that a significant number of your firearms aren't even legal to own in MD. They still have an "assault weapons" ban in effect in MD...

Maryland even hates when it's own cops defend themselves and innocent children--when they are not officially "on the job"...

    http://www.investigativevoice.com/in...&Itemid=44

Apparently, in MD, even if you ARE part of the official badge-wearing anointed "monopoly on force", if you attempt to defend yourself or innocent children against gang members--even if you AREN'T armed--you will get taken to task for it...

Let there be no mistake--the government in MD is a large-scale criminal enterprise. All semblance of ethics, morals, or civic duty that a government SHOULD espouse were left in the gutter YEARS ago.

The only functional difference between the Crips, Bloods, MS-13 and the LEA's/Governor's Office/General Assembly of MD are the "colors" they wear.

WTF is going on in Annapolis?

Joy of joys, the MD Senate voted to ban strip searched for most misdemeanor and traffic violations on Thursday, 25 Feb...

    MOST misdemeanor traffic violations?1?!? WTF?!?!?

Senate Unanimously Approves Strip Search Ban

    Thursday, February 25, 2010
    Robert Lang and Associated Press

The Maryland Senate has approved legislation to ban strip searches for most misdemeanor or traffic offenses.

The Senate passed the bill 45-0 on Thursday.

The measure, sponsored by Baltimore County Sen. James Brochin, includes exceptions if officers have a reasonable, fact-based suspicion that the suspect may be concealing drugs or weapons.

The bill now heads to the House of Delegates, where similar legislation is being considered.

Brochin says he decided to sponsor the bill after reading media reports last year about a 29-year-old nurse who said she was strip-searched at Baltimore's Central Booking and Intake Center after being pulled over for traffic violations.

Where do I find a list of (il)legal firearms?

I guess all the Hi Cap XD's and the AK with the 75 rd. drum mag are illegal...

I have to do some scheming on this situation...

Most "regular" handguns are legal to possess if you already own them when you move to the state, but you won't be allowed to buy new hi-cap magazines via mail order for it while living in MD...

And if you shoudl EVER have to use a firearm to defend yourself or your family--even INSIDE your own home--you WILL be arrested, and you WILL end up in court, charged by the state with SOMETHING. Plan on it. If you own defensive firearms in MD, and you live in an urban area, you should ALREADY have a lawyer on retainer, and have his number on speed dial...

Don't know about the AK. The law says there are all kinds of restrictions on purchasing them, but doesn't really restrict bringing one in you already own.

Transporting that AK with the drum mag in MD (like to take it to a range, or out of state to shoot) might cause some "interesting" situations if you get pulled over on the highway though. I wouldn't want to be you if that happened. The way things work in MD is that even if something is legal, they will find SOMETHING to charge you with, and then let the courts sort it out. It is official policy of the MSP and most LEA's that if you DON'T have a badge, but you DO have a gun, then you are OBVIOUSLY a criminal and you MUST be guilty of something, even fabricate a charge...

Here is the prohibited/restricted firearms list for MD.

    http://www.mcsm.org/mdlaw.html

Laws in specific counties or cities may be even more restrictive. (MD does not have "incorporation" on any level...)

However, there is a bill in the MD GA to GREATLY expand the list of what constitutes an "assault weapon" and includes "copy cat" models (semiautos that look like real assault weapons of ANY make or model) and includes a LOT more pistols. It also REQUIRES registration of ANY weapon currently owned that would fall under the new ban, by 10 December 2010...

    http://www.resistnet.com/group/maryl...n-introduced-2

Don't do it, man. Don't move to MD. You will rue the day. And your family will no longer be safe--on the streets, in school, or while shopping. Don't do that to your beloved family. I pray EVERY day that my daughters and granddaughter stay safe in that cesspool of criminality and corruption.

    Consider Virginia...

I agree with the previous replies- If at all possible, don't do it! The state of Maryland doesn't deserve to be graced with the stabilizing presence of law-abiding, responsible, patriotic citizens (i.e., the overwhelming majority of legal gun owners). The people have decided that the only people they will allow to carry guns are the police, and I say if that's what they want, that's what they'll get. Better to let that bastion of concentrated sheepledom destroy itself through its own gradual cultural necrosis of corruption, apathy, and greed.

If you must move to MD, be aware that you will have to compromise your principles on a daily and even hourly basis. You will not be able to carry a gun. You will not be able to TALK about guns. Inform someone casually that you own guns and all they will hear is "I am a dangerous psychopath." You would be better off telling people that you deal crack to kids. You will not be able to transport guns, even legally, without feeling like you are secretly doing something vile and dirty, and if you are stopped by the gestapo (i mean, police) while driving to or from the range, they will make it very clear what a vile and dirty criminal they believe you to be (albeit wrongly and illegally, but not that it matters to them).

If you have guns in your home or vehicle, know that you've given the authorities carte blanche to invade your privacy. Don't risk getting into any arguments with any neighbors or acquaintances, because if anyone has a gripe against you, all it takes is the phrase "he has a gun in his _____" to send law enforcement into condition red. I am reminded of a case I heard secondhand about a man with VA plates who was pulled over near Bethesda for driving with one of those bumper stickers with some phrase like, "keep honking, I'm reloading." You can guess how that one went. The gestapo was kind enough to award him some nice shiny bracelets to wear and a nice air-conditioned jail cell to relax in overnight.

In case going about your business doesn't seem hazardous enough as a gun owner, commit a minor infraction and it can magically become a major one if you own guns. Having a gun makes you guilty until proven innocent, and you are a hundred times more likely to be detained, handcuffed, and spend a night in jail for some small offense in it is in some tangential way associated with having guns nearby.

Lastly, and most importantly, you will be living in a world where protecting yourself from violence is not only criminal but culturally frowned upon. This is a society where the majority of young women that I have spoken to about the subject feel that the most effective way to protect themselves when walking through a parking lot late at night is to engage in a cell phone conversation with a friend so that the friend on the other line can quickly hang up and dispatch the police to the location if the conversation is suddenly interrupted by a mugger, rapist, or some other violent opportunist preying on the inattentive and oblivious sheep that abound in that myopic nanny state known as Maryland.

    Good luck and Godspeed.

I can't wait to try out my new "novelty plate" on the front of my car when I go up to MD to fight a ticket my wife got while driving my vehicle in November...

I'll be leaving my firearms at a friend's house in VA--on the "free side of the moat".

Hopefully I'll just get some honks of agreement from the locals.

But if the "officials" don't appreciate my clever humor, Montgomery County or the State of Maryland may end up funding my graduate degree courtesy of the First Amendment and Title 18, U.S.C., Section 245, § b and e.

I'll be running a voice recorder in my vehicle every time I turn the ignition key while in MD...

A thing of beauty, indeed. Is that an "official" license plate or just a facsimile? In any case, very clever.

Anybody have an empty rental property in NoVa?

It looks like my only hope is to go through my ex-BIL to get a CCP. He has a port security business in Balto. and he just might be able to get the paperwork through. Other than that I guess I better sign a short term lease...

    ML175,

it is a "custom novelty" plate made by a company in Florida that I found online. These plates are plastic, with the state design silk-screened on the front. The numbers/letters are engraved into the face of the plate. They cost $20, and you can get up to 10 characters (which is 3 more than a normal MD "vanity" plate)

NC only issues rear plates--we have no front plates, so I can put anything on the front I want. MD is one of the few states in the Union that still issues front and rear plates, so unfortunately, MD residents can't put a "novelty" plate on the front of their car. But since I am not a MD resident, and my car is not registered in MD, they can't hold me to their tags and placards codes...

I also got a NC plate that says "OPEN CARRY", and a keychain that is a mini copy o the NC plate. That plate is on my vehicle now, but I will swap out the MD plate for my trips into the Peoples Republic of Maryland.

    Here is their website:

Any possibility of moving to Pennsylvania, just INSIDE the state line with the Peoples Republic Of Maryland? Might be a bit of a commute to Baltimore area, but...... You can have guns in the Keystone state.

You probably dont want to hear this, but you are wasting your money, time and LIFE by moving back to that S- hole of a state.

If you don mind me asking why are you thinking of moving back there?

You think its bad in Maryland? Well, I have news for you. Its 10 times WORSE than you think it is.

I have lived in Colorado and I know what its like where your moving from.

Let me put it to you this way, You are moving from a state that is full of freedom and good people, into a state thats like N. Korea for comparison and filled to the brim with horrible negative ignorant people.

Not only will you have far less gun rights, but in Maryland you cant drive 5 miles without a god damn cop riding your butt down teh road and looking for any excuse to pull you over. And you better have removed all your gun sticklers off of your vehicle, or you are going to be harassed and most likely your vehicle searched.

Lets also not forget how ignorant and rude Maryland police are. They will tear all of your belongings out of your vehicle and toss them onto the highway blowing in the wind. Maryland Police have NO respect for you, your property and your rights.

I am telling you right now. If you move back to Maryland you will regret it in less than a weeks time of living there.

Do not waste any part of your life living there man.

I dont care if its your wife making you move there. You need to put her in her place and stand up for yourself.

Or, if its for a job, there is NO money worth living in that state.

I know you probably think I am exaggerating, but I am NOT. If anything, I am underplaying it a bit.

In my opinion, if Maryland slid off into the Atlantic ocean, I wouldn't even blink.

Im telling you, you WILL be sorry of you move back there.

Being a former west coaster, I know what these guys are talking about. If you can, move to Virginia, PA, or Delaware. Yes, I would pick Delaware over Maryland anyday. Or better yet, consider coming to Arizona. We love people who love to be free here.

Don't you think that is little harsh grouping everybody together? Sure the politics sucks, gun laws suck, the governor is an idiot and some of the cops are what you describe but for the most part it's not as bad as they (OP) make it out to be.

    No, it really is...

My wife, who after 6 months of education, de-programming, and tender care, was actually accepting of my OC, and even encouraged me to teach one of my stepdaughters to shoot, has been in MD for about 3 months working as a "traveling nurse." In the time she's been there, she has become even more anti-gun than she was before I started educating her about OC down here in NC.

They put something in the tapwater in MD that causes this myopic hoplophobia. I'm SURE of it.

The police, the AG, and the Governor have all stated publicly that the 2A "does not apply in MD". The VAST majority of the people in the urban counties are clinical hoplopobes. The Courts tow the AG's line. The news media is disgustingly anti-gun. Even on the rare occasions where a law-abiding citizen lawfully defends themself ON THEIR OWN PROPERTY with a legally-owned firearm, they are brutally and mercilessly persecuted by the legal system in MD.

There are a few counties--mostly the rural counties in the far West and Coastal South Eastern areas, that aren't completely tyrannical about firearms ownership and use, but even they are hobble by State laws and policies.

There is NO amount of money that would tempt me to ever move back to MD. I pray for the safety of my wife, stepdaughters and my sweet little granddaughter every day. I pray that someday my family will come to their senses and see MD for the tyrannical serfdom it is, and will throw off the shackles of slavery and move to a reasonable state with a lawful, non-criminal government. But until that day, I pray a LOT, and do everything I can to teach them how to stay safe--at least as safe as they can be in a war zone where they are prohibited by law from defending themselves...

You guys are being too hard on Maryland by describing it in the manner that you do. First off, it is not a state full of braindead people. In fact, only two counties in Maryland are blue (Prince Georges, and Baltimore City/County). The rest routinely vote red, and fully support gun rights. The problem is that they are outvoted because of the number of people who live in PG and Baltimore.

That being said, I would not move here either. I have been trying to get out and move to Texas for 8 years now. The gun laws here are draconian. The taxes are out of control. Property is ridiculously overpriced, and everything is over-regulated. Stay out west!

Maryland is full of conditioned FUDDs' who are inculcated with the idea that the state is the actual font of all rights since birth. The education system, media and politicians ensure that this concept is perpetuated. Maryland is hopelessly myopic and xenophonicoverall. They generally do not know any better and are reluctant to learn or accept anything other.

I enlisted at 17... because I never wanted to become 'like that'. I came home on leave (from 'Nam) 6 years, 5 states and 23 countrieslater and I may as well have come from the moon. Not only do they not know much... they don't suspect anything either. And they will re-elect the same ideolgical heirs to the Royal Calvert's year after year after year like the mouth breathin' fools they are.

It's not by accident that I became a desert 'Zonie.

All right guys, here's the deal. I have a slowly progressing terminal illness, and I want my wife to be near family. It's just her and I out here, and if something were to happen to me unexpectedly, she would be stuck trying to move all this crap back east. I don't want to leave that pile of crap in her lap. In my mind, I'm doing what's best for her. Considering the time I have left, it's a sacrifice I can live with.

I'll take the advice of meeting with a lawyer to learn the limit of my disobedience when confronted by police. More than likely I'll be arrested several times as I don't like my rights violated. And, if in the course of arrest excessive force is used and I happen to die, well, hopefully my wife can win a wrongful death lawsuit. I really don't have much to lose...

On it's way out? Try gone!
Had an incident last year where an ex stirred up trouble by telling police I was suicidal. Police show up, ask if I owned firearms, and I was stupid enough to say yes... so they went in the house without permission, took 45 minutes tearing my place apart to find them (it's hard to find 3 locked up and unloaded guns put away in the basement when you have no idea where to look), then hauled my butt off to some hospital to prove my sanity, where I was promptly released after seeing a doctor.

Yeah I was fine, there was no reason for any of it to happen, other than the lies of some crazy woman causing trouble.
I never did get my guns back either. A detective in Towson send me a letter giving me a BS reason why they wouldn't give them back. So I pointed out his errors, and got legal council... then I get another letter giving a different reason why (also BS).
Eventually I just had to give up because what was taken was only worth $3000, and it would have cost at least that much just to pay a retainer for the lawyer.

I since replaced two of the three.
Lesson learned that day? You have no rights here. NONE!
I was approached on my porch at gun point, had to tell the cops I had a phone in my hand to keep from being shot, was hand cuffed, had my home searched, property seized (and kept), got a bill from the hospital for $1000 just to be taken there and send home...
There was no crime, no charges, no nothing. They just came, took me, my stuff, and that was it.
MD is pretty close to being the same as Germany in the 30's. I kid you not.

Oh as for me? From Balto. Co. suburbs, Former firefighter, never arrested, with LEO's in the family... and none of it mattered to anyone. All of a sudden, because of one woman making a phone call (form 30 miles away), I am suddenly being treated like some dangerous mentally ill nut job.

'm leaving this state as soon as I can afford to do so.

Yeah, forget that. I lived there for four months. Never again. Never ever again.

If you do go, can I buy all your MD illegal firearms?

Alternatively, you can store them at my house. Just leave ammo for them for periodic "function checks". :P

Edit: Hmm, I just saw your last post in this thread.
    Why open carry? Because 1911 > 911.
