I awakened this morning to learn that the effort to allow concealed carry in restaurants serving alcohol in Virginia (so long as the carrier did not drink) had been killed by a special sub-committee set up by Democrats to create just such an obstacle. An hour ago I learned that this same body killed the repeal of "one-gun-per-month" restrictions.

For our bretheren and sisteren in other states, let me point out that technically there is no such thing as a "bar" or "saloon" in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Any establishment serving on-premises alcohol MUST have commensurate food sales totalling 51% or more of gross revenue to keep a license to serve alcoholic beverages. Yet a liquor license is a major source of revenue, and most of the better places to enjoy a decent meal also offer alcoholic beverages.

Yet, the media keep referring to attempts to "allow guns in bars" in Virginia.

But openly carried firearms are legit in Virginia liquor-licensed establishments, and (if management will allow) one can even have a beer or a cocktail while carrying an openly displayed firearm.

Oddly enough, I did not even know of the existence of this special sub-committee until after they had struck. Even odder, I don't remember ever reading about it here.

    Copperheads.

How did this happen in Virginia??

Actually the restaurant bill is already done. The Senate had their own version of the bill, SB334, which passed, and then the House passed it unchanged, so it's already on the way to the Governor's desk.

Really? Huh. What were these newspeople talking about? Anyway, "one gun a month" is still in force, isnt it?

Don't you get the VA-ALERT e-mails? This was all covered in a report issued yesterday.
