Well said.

Much better than I.

Also, if anyone were to attend, don't OC. MOC does not need attention drawn to itself at the expense of a fallen officer.
Yeah, if any OCer's attend the funeral they should not OC out of respect.
any bikers out there Mi Patriot guard may be providing escort for this officer, it is not yet a confirmed mission but, if it is i will post again and anyone wanting to ride with us is welcome to do so. NO OC at funerals with PGR

Is there more to this story?

I don't want to rain on anybody's sympathy, but the story at the link doesn't give enough information to exclude that Mr. Potts was defending himself from police.

There is the tiniest hint that it may have occurred inside the house, which if true, immediately raises the question of why the police were inside the house without a warrant. If true, did the police intimidate their way in? Did he resist an illegal intrusion that the police then escalated?

I'm not saying any of these things are true. I'm giving examples of alternate scenarios to illustrate that the information provided at the link in the OP is lacking. And that it may not be the police who deserve the sympathy.

An important question in my mind, and one that I can't answer, which is why I'm asking you Jackson folks, is would you be interested in this if it hadn't been for their relentless abuse of Kimberguy?

I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes, or suggest anyones intentions, just putting it out there. Because it seems to me like this could at least come across as an attempt for the group to prove how it is morally superior.

He wasn't the first cop to be murdered in Michigan, and sadly, he won't be the last. In my opinion, doing some form of charity in his honor, while not doing it for others suggests just what I mentioned above, which is that we're trying to one up them.

Regardless of anyones intentions, I think that if a choice is made to do this, what Doug said is critical. This can't be done as a political move, nor should it seem like a political move even if it isn't, because that would be in EXTREMELY bad taste.

I think that has already happened:

we shouldnt, and usually dont(unless you include taxes)

but the more LEO's and members of the general public that support us and our cause will make for better publicity, and better awareness of the open carry movement, and the 2A in general.

we support something for downed officers, more officers start to realize that we are normal people and not nuts, more officers start to support us,hopefully publically, they tell they're friends that its okay and they dont have a problem with it,then those friends tell they're friends that they're cop friend said its completely legal and not to worry, theyre just law abiding normal every day citizens, and the process continues.

its all about the good publicity, and a fallen officers fund is generally a good cause anyways.

Unfortunately no matter what was said some would always view this as a political move on the part of MOC.

I have a better idea than us running a donation table. Go around and put donation cans in local businesses. We do not need to make a big deal about MOC. The end goal will be what we want money to help the family in whatever way needed.

I agree. But we don't need to be handing them the evidence of it.

A simple side note was posted of the secondary benefit.

Lil_freak_66 took it way beyond that and cited it as a reason for doing it. It is abhorrent to use this tragic event for the explicitly expressed political purpose as lil_freak_66 expressed.

As you have suggested here, a less direct involvement in the fundraising and a subsequent donation to a police charitable organization, such as The Thin Blue Line of Michigan, in memorial of the officer by MOC would be more than appropriate. And in very good taste.

A fundraiser is not a bad idea. The obvious choice would be to support Thin Blue Line. Make the donation from MOC in honor of the fallen officer. No fanfair, nothing special, don't make a big deal of it other than make it clear as a group we respect officers and wanted to express our sadness and help out in an admittedly small way. End of Story. Nothing political beyond the fact that we support the police and want to respect an officer who fell in the line of duty.

Thanks. Some of you are much more eloquent than I.

You guys have a thin blue line?

Here, we have to protect ourselves.

Is it really worth the tax money?

Well, I guess you get what you're paying for. Here, we pay for it even though we don't get it.
