Open Carry on Public Property is Legal in Kansas, as the State does not regulateOpen Carry. The State only regulates Concealed Carry on this issue, as is codified under 21-4201(4). Law Enforcement should be aware Open Carry is Legal, however; you should too be aware that under KSA 12-16 124, Local Governments and Counties may regulate Open Carry of LoadedFirearms on ones Person, or Carry inAir/Land/Water Vehicle, KSA12-16-124(2) and 12-16 124(4), and the same Law alsoworks at prohibiting carry intoa/ny: jail, juvenile detention facility, prison, courthouse, courtroom or city hall- KSA 12-16 124(3). With the exception of KSA 12-16-124(3), being in the possesion of a Permit from Kansas, or one which Kansas reconizes, is an affirmative defense to any prosecution under KSA 12-16 124(2) or KSA 12-16 124(4).

I've been trying to find the sites in Kansas to find the statutes for the individual counties and towns, to no avail. Can anyone help?

Yes. Cops shouldn’t have to guess whether a gun-toting individual is on his way to the shooting range or is intent on criminal purposes. 30% (309 votes) No. The Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms, and if a person owns the gun legally, why should he be stopped by the police? 68% (693 votes) No opinion 1% (15 votes) Total Votes: 1,017
Over 2-1 for the 2A !!:celebrate
‘‘Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.’’ Thomas Jefferson

Hi, im new here and have finally purchased my first pistol and am very curious about open carry here in Topeka KS. I was asking an officer what my rights were as a citizen and he told me that i can open carry as long as my pistol is not loaded and ammo is not readily accessible. confused i asked, "define readily accessible." and he just said not to keep ammo anywhere near the gun. So....what is the point of carry a gun in the open if its not loaded. Not that im crazy i just want to know my legal rights so i can abide by them. I'm not going to be gunned in front of my family while washing my car like that poor soul did here a few years ago. I have a right to protect myself and was wondering if anybody could shed some more light on the subject for me. I will be taking a conceal carry course and buying a smaller pistol eventually but i feel much more safe with the one i have now. BTW its a Taurus PT101.
