I agree with Doug here, as he cited the proper statute.

we CAN CARRY in places that sell alcohol we just have to have permission first.

I suggest you practice your gun defense skills first, as some drunk idiot might try a grab, but as far as legal....

You can carry in a bar with advanced permission.

By security do you mean bouncer?

A handgun is not in the top 20 things a "bouncer" in WI should possess. You may not use it to intimidate and you may notdraw it except for a very narrow range of circumstances in defense of life. As a bouncer,a drunk taking a swing is not a valid threat to your life.

Your primary tools are your hands and your wits. (this is the case if you are OC out in public also)

I used to be a bouncer, and some of my friends still are. I am telling you from personal experience, having a gun on you in the situations that can arise from drinking will only make things worse. Please quickly strike this idea from your head.

I am a Bouncer at Green Bay's Busiest HIP HOP club, DO NOT CARRY A GUN, your not going to need it. You get into a bar fight with 1 - 2 -3 individuals, they will take your gun. there is only so much a SERPA can do. The Liability alone

I would have to agree with what others have posted about this.

The last thing a bouncer wants to have with them is a gun (well maybe not the last thing...). Bars and bouncers with guns just don't mix well. The liability alone should be enough to make you not want to carry as a bouncer. Now a can of good pepper spray might be a good idea, but I would not want it exposed, as it might become a target also.

Short answer is YES, with permission from the owner/manager you can carry in a bar, but as a bouncer, I would have to recommend that you don't. It is your choice though.

IK. We have had our debates on topics in the past while being very respectful of each other.

I want to maintian that respect, and state that you have never been MORE WRONG.

I know people who have killed and been killed with one single punch. ONE SINGLE PUNCH. That being said, someone takes a sing at me, I definitley will be in fear for my life. I won't go on any further.

In this particular situation, you need to put things into context. The context of a bouncer at a bar. This is not someone (bouncer) who is an unwilling participant. This is not you walking down a dark alley andathreatjumping you. This is not a threat who has followed you home and is pursuing you through your front door. This context is where you do not approve of their actions at a bar and you are ordering them to stop whatever they are doing and they decide to take a swing. Good luck defending the use of deadly force in that context. Only a fool would draw a firearm as the first line of defense.

I would choose discreet concealed carry over open carry if I were personally compelled to carry as a bouncer so long as my duties did not entail walking out into the parking lot.

I concur 100%. IK, I usually learn something every time I spar with you. You make me THINK, not fight.

I agreee with you that a bouncer should not carry a firearm. A good bouncer should be a strong hand to hand combat expert with excellent submission skills. A securityperson with a firearm should be a last defense back up to a very ugly situation where thebouncerisin situation where there is a possibiltiy of himlosing his life.

Now, if someone approaches me with hostile aggression, I will unholster and take aim. It isTHEIR choice to makeME use it. Several people have told me that I need to take a CCW class. I have enrolled in one with Midwest Markmans, Mark Thole. I will follow up with more classes with Steve Gibbs. And IF I ever need an attorney, Steve will be it.

I would rather be tried by twelve, than carried by six.

That is precisely the point of the Jason Dickey story. The gun community in SC was stunned, stunned I tell you, when the thugs were found more credible than Jason.

I know, the story kinda blew me away. Very possible he was being a little too honest about the incident with the police or his lawyer stunk ? embellishment of the actual events, could have helped him....certainly couldn't have hurt. Just amazing how this guy got screwed.
