Well I did it. I went out and bought a nice holster to open carry the Ruger P89dc I have had since forever. Only took it to the range to shoot. So I put it on. went outside. Then to the store. No one noticed. I mean come on! It is a new holster for crying out loud! Stop me. Ask me about it. No one even paid me any attention.

Yes I know it is a cheap KNJ holster(COWMTB 16). But it is nice and better looking than that old camo hunting slide on your belt loop thing I had it in. The gun feels a bit heavy to carry around. It will take some getting use too.

We all speak of liberty and freedom like we are the only ones that know the truth and the right path. But if we expect everyone to accept and follow our path and to accept our truth and want to force it upon them then that is no longer liberty or freedom. It is slavery. I believe in liberty for all. Regardless of their political views, religion, race, sex, etc.

Well I carried all day. FINALLY someone asked me about my gun. I went over to my friends house. When I got out of the vehicle there were some kids playing. A young boy about 8 came over and ask why do you have a gun? Now me not knowing how his parents might feel about guns and not wanting to give a complicated answer. I just said because I am allowed too. Well this was not a good enough answer for him. He asked again. So I thought I would use a little humor. I told him it was to keep the elephants away. He responded by saying there were no elephants around. And I responded with see it works. He laughed and went about playing.

Gotta love kids. He was not judgemental and was willing to ask. And only left when he felt he had gotten a reasonabel answer. And he was not intimidated by me carrying a gun like most adults prob would. And he did not ask to see it like some kids would. I do know that his father hunts so the young man prob knows to respect firearms.

P.S. The young man did not come up to me because I was a stranger either. I have been in the area alot and had talked to the young man before along with his mother.

Good deal, it is important to educate the next gen about firearms.

I have yet to OC anywhere really other then just going to the range, gun shop or around the house. Kinda unsure of myself or something, just the idea of having LEO called when in wally world or some place makes me double think. Which I know I should have to as I have the right...

I know how you feel. I still feel a bit uncomfortable with the possibility of a leo stopping me. That is why I wish I OC pamplet in a business card size that I can hand to the officers with my license to help educate them as we talk. But not alot of space on a business card so gotta figure out what to put on one. I love the pamplets but don't want to carry em with me when I go into stores and such. And lets face it. You don't want to be reaching into a vehicle for one.

As to kids it would be nice to see a pamplet geared towards young kids and teensin order to educate them. Education should always start early. Lets face it. Most of the time they see guns is on tv or in the news and in a negative light.

As to Wally world. I worked there for 7 years. In that time I was the only one to call a leo on someone with a gun and they were actting strange. Most of the time people walk in with a propperly holstered weapon everyone just think oh they must be law enforcement(they have no clue about OC)and go on about their work. And even though I know that I have not been there yet. But then I have not had a reason to go either. Not gonna go just to tote around a gun.

I would love to go to starbucks. I love coffee But I hate buying a cup of coffee for the price of a box of ammo. I can make alot of coffee at home for the price of a single cup at starbucks and it tastes the same. I have no prob supporting them. But I do have a prob over paying for something.

If I get some spare time I think I'll try coming up with some OC info business card like you are talking about. Would most likely have to be front and back but should be able to do something. Atleast something with the state statues/laws on the topic.

When I get something together hopefully later tonight if I can I'll post a thread on it.

My favorite response to the, "Why do you carry?" question .....

Do you own a fire extinguisher?

I've yet to not see someone's eyes light up with comprehension.
