Concealed carry at Life University

The first part is the response I got from our campus chief of police the second part is what I wrote to him.

Hello Mr. Miller,

Thank you for your inquiry.

In response to the same, the University Administration is very aware  
of the anticipated legislation. However, notwithstanding the new  
legislation, the University's policy regarding the prohibition of  
weapons on campus will remain in effect.

Additionally, please know that the University is committed to  
providing and ensuring a safe and livable community to the best of  
it's ability.

Lastly, once the new legislation takes effect, the University  
Administration will more than likely provide a response to the Life  
University community in anticipation of any confusion the new law may  
bring.

Thank you again for your concern, as these types of concerns helps the  
whole Life community do our part in being proactive in preventing and  
mitigating crime!

follow laws, policies, or rules, they are criminals. I am a law-
abiding citizen, I could not have obtained my Georgia Firearm License
if I was a criminal. One of the big reasons, other than safety on
campus, is my safety returning home. If I can't have a legal,
concealed weapon on campus I am returning home unarmed where I may
encounter someone who has broken into my home and is armed. Once this
bill becomes law I will need someone like you to help me voice my
opinion as to why it is good to have armed, responsible, law-abiding,
and licensed students conceal carry. Colorado State University had in
the past allowed concealed carry on campus and saw a dramatic drop in
crime rates at the university. I am a member of the National Rifle
Association, Georgia Carry Organization, and Students for Concealed
Carry on Campus(concealedcampus.org) . One theme is prevalent amoung
all these organizations, take responsibility for your own safety. Law
enforcement has no constitutional or legal obiligation to protect
anyone, the Supreme Court ruled on this in Warren v. District of
Columbia, you have to be able to protect yourself. Can I ask for your
support in allowing legal concealed carry at Life University?

Just one more question, please. Since the University is ensuring my safety, will they pay medical bills, funeral expenses, etc in the event they fail in that endeavor?

Better yet: "How do you propose to guarantee my security? Will I have my own personal officer to accompany me daily?"

Georgia Code 20-3-35 would be revamped under Senate Bill 308 to include a new Code Section: 20-3-35(5).

Georgia Code 20-3-35(5), if passed and signed into Law, would give The Board of Regents the Authority to regulate Firearms on Board of Regents Property through 'Rules' passed by them.

However, it is important to notice, that these are only 'Rules', not 'Laws'.

Georgians who do not follow these 'Rules' would be subject to expulsion from the Property, however; these 'Rules' would not carry the same force or effect as Law.

Any Georgian, or any other Visitor, who does not comply could be Arrested for Criminal Tresspassing, as is Georgia Code 16-7-21(b)(1) through 16-7-21(b)(3). However, 16-11-127.1 would no longer include School Zone Safety Areas as they pertain to Adult Institutions of Education.

Therefore, Adult GED Centers/Adult Literacy Centers/Colleges/Community Colleges/Universities/Post Graduate Schools, etc. would no longer be Gun Free Zones.

Unfortuantely, The General Assembly has included Legislation that would still bar Firearms at any Board of Regent Athletic Event, under Senate Bill proposal 16-11-127(b)(5), as amended, per this proposal.

Violation of 16-11-127(b)(5), should it become Law, would only bea Misdemeanor, in accordance with 16-11-127(b).

***As I have said before, it never ceases to amaze me why Schools in Georgia continue to manage to keep getting their way on little exceptions like those. The Board of Regents is a force to be reckoned with in The Legislative Chambers of Georgia.***

Example:

1. Man with AK-47 on Campus or in Math 101Class at Georgia University, Legal, but if He is asked toleave He has to leave, however;

2. Same Man with same AK-47 'between the Hedges', Illegal, and is a Misdemeanor, regardless if He is asked to leave or not.

P.S.: If, in example 1, the Man does not leave when asked, it would be a Misdemeanor, but nota Firearm-related Charge, instead; it would be a Criminal Tresspassing Charge, the Code to which is enumerated above in Paragraph 5.
