I recently posted the following in another thread:
Long time reader but I registered today to post this:

My son and OC'd at Fuddrucker's on Duke Street in Alexandria last night. We had done so several times before so we both were stunned when the manager came up to us (at our table, after we had ordered and paid but before we were served) and asked if we were police officers. When he informed us that company policy only allowed police officers to carry in the restaurant, I asked for our money back. As he was getting our money, my son and I discussed the possibility that we had been transported to an alternative universe. The manager returned with our money and stated again that it was company policy. I told him that we were leaving and would not be back but that I did not believe that the company had a policy forbidding OCing by non-police as I had OC'd in this very store many times and that I had never had a problem doing so at any other Fuddrucker's in the area. He turned and walked away without a word and we left.

We ended up eating at Lone Star down Duke Street where we Oc'd without incident.
The moderator asked that additional discussion of this topic appear in a new thread, so here it is.

I just received the following response from Fuddruckers corporate headquarters regarding their policy with respect to carrying in their stores:
Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.

Open carry laws are changing in various states. Therefore, restaurants are more clearly communicating their policies to guests. Fuddruckers has had a ‘No Weapons’ policy for several years but it wasn’t being enforced in all locations. By enforcing its no-weapons policy, Fuddruckers is enforcing its rights as a private business to create the sort of dining environment we believe best suits and appeals to all or the majority of our guests.

If you’d like to further discuss this matter, please feel free to contact Mary Hamill, Vice President of HR, at the number below.

On behalf of Fuddruckers, Inc., we want express our sincerest appreciation for your patronage. We are truly sorry if our policy has forced you or your family to find an alternate dining facility.

    Regard,

I had no ideathat Fuddruckers has ano weapons policy. I have OCd in many of their stores without incident. I wonder if all stores will be enforcing this rule?

Guess this answers my question of whether it was only certain locations affected.

On March 24th we held an Open Carry dinner at the Herndon Fuddruckers. Before the dinner, I called the manager and told him I had a group of 25-30 people coming that night. He was very pleased.

Once we got there, the manager was very accommodating and even gave everyone in our group 20% off their bill.

Everyone (in our group anyway) had a very good time. I then got this e-mail from a friend that went to Fudds in Herndon the other day

    - - - -- - - - - - -
So... I went into Fudds today for lunch and was approached by themanager asking me a bunch of gun related questions. Then proceeded to tell me about your open carry dinner the week before last. Hesaid a lady complained to the district manager and he was instructed not to allow anyone with a firearm into the restaurant ever againunder any circumstances. He told me the district manager was incharge or the Annandale store as well. The GM who was very nice andagreed with me 100% but he was a bit scared of his boss the districtguy. I told him I was going to follow up with the district managerand he said that would be a great idea. The store GM's name is JuanChicas-703-318-9438 cell-571-214-2716

The district guy is John Tool 703-994-9442 (however, he is onvacation this week)

Just thought I would pass this along considering how much businessyou drum up for them.

Let me know what ya think,
    RJ
    - - - - - - - -

After I received the above e-mail, I called Juan (the Herndon manager) and we was very stressed about all of this. He said his GM, John Tool was very upset with him. I explained I would call John Tool and talk to him... He was thankful and asked that I don't return (with my firearm) until I straighten things out with the GM-John Tool.

Today I was able to have the conversation with John Tool. It did not go well. Maybe I did not explain things as well as I could have but I think I did a pretty good job. Either way, I will not be giving any business to the Herndon or Annandale Fuddruckers.

Here is the audio from my conversation with John Tool, the GM of the Annandale and Herndon Fuddruckers: http://edsfiles.us/audio/fudds.mp3

Hey, I got the same email.

    Hi Marco,

Please accept my apologies for the delayed response!

Open carry laws are changing in various states. Therefore, restaurants are more clearly communicating their policies to guests. Fuddruckers has had a no weapons policy for several years but it wasn’t being enforced in all locations. By enforcing its no weapons policy, Fuddruckers is enforcing its rights as a private business to create the sort of dining environment we believe best suits and appeals to all or the majority of our guests.

We welcome small and large groups to gather, hold meetings and dine with us in our main dining area or party rooms. However, in deference to all guests, no guns will be allowed on premise. We are also very happy to cater meetings off premise.

    My reply.

    Hi Adriana,

    Thanks for the reply.
With the policy change/enforcementI'm forced to give my money to your competitors.
I will be sure to spread the word that Fudderrucker's is doing such bang up business it can turn away law abiding paying customers.

Ed, Citizen is the person I was referring to as a moderator. I'm new here; I probably was wrong.

The email I quoted was from Adriana Thompson, the same person who sent the email to Agent19. I believe Mary Hamill, the VP of HR, is the person to contact at corporate regarding this matter. Peter Large isFuddruckers CEO and Ralph Flannery isits COO.

From what I make of it, the individual location managers are supportive, but have their hands tied due to corporate policy and district managers starting to enforce said policy?

As I said before, the manager of the Annandale loc. is NOT going to be happy one bit.

Last month when everyone went to Ledos (also a great place btw), a few of us still went to Fudds as usual. The manager asked where everyone was, since he always sees a huge crowd of us come in every month. He definately missed all of our patronage that night, unfortunately I'm sure he will be feeling it every month in the future now...:?

Then it's up to the Managers to put pressure on corporate to change there policy.

Better burgers to be found elsewhere anyway. I haven't eaten at Fudd's in a coon's age.

I don't know what's available in RVA or NoVa, but in Hampton Roads Kelly's Tavern blows them away. I just don't know Kelly's stance.

Perhaps I'll investigate this week. Maybe hit the one on Colley after class on Thursday for a late supper.

Good time to spread the word and hurt them where it hurts - the bottom line.

It would seem at the very least it should be mentioned in any correspondence how well Starbucks has come off with their hands-off approach to this matter. Not only are they taking the high road, not engaging in a highly controversial matter, they are reaping the benefits of added patronage by those who take this matter to heart.

I don't agree. The Antis would say that gun rights are only controversial to us. They have their view of the world without controversy (no gun rights at all), and we have ours.

By definition, as long as there are antis, and there are people like us, it will be a controversial issue.

But most important, when you communicate with someone for whom this is a secondary issue, they generally don't want any controversy, and are usually just trying to find the course of least resistance to make it go away. It's our job to convince them that our ideas are that better course.

Right, but we have the constitution and courts backing us. What we do (and want) is the way it is and the way it always has been, and they're the ones trying to change that.
