LEGISLATIVE ALERT - IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED !!
This bill represents an immediate & serious threat to our continuing ability to purchase long guns without the ten-day wait and registration the bill would impose.
PROPOSED REGISTRATION OF RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS - OPPOSE!
AB 1810 (FEUER) Firearms
Assemblyman Michael Feuer, D-los Angeles, wants your rifles and shotguns registered!!
If passed, AB 1810 would require the registration of rifles and shotguns at the time of sale or other form of transfer such as when given as a gift, even if given by a father to his son or daughter, or through other inheritance!
IT WOULD REQUIRE THAT RETAILERS PUT THEIR CUSTOMERS THROUGH THE SAME PROCESS OF FORMS COMPLETION, RECORD KEEPING, AND REPORTING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AS THEY DO NOW FOR HANDGUNS! IT WOULD BE TIME CONSUMING AND COSTLY.
The cost increases would necessarily have to be passed on to customers in the form of higher prices! Retailers, including when at gun shows, would have no choice; it would be the only way that they could stay in business!!
AB 1810 is set for hearing in the Assembly Committee on Public Safety on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.
There is no valid reason for the registration of rifles and shotguns. Compared to handguns. Such firearms are rarely used in crime and their registration would not significantly help to solve or prevent crimes.
COTW Gun Show attendees are asked to immediately contact Assembly Member Feuer, the Assembly Committee on Public Safety, and their own Legislative District Assembly Member in strong opposition to AB 1810!
PLEASE ACT ON THIS NOW!
