See Bloomberg....NO GUNSHOW LOOPHOLE
A big pat on the back for the Administration of Showmasters Gunshow and the gun owners in Virginia.

At yesterdays show at the Raceway, two people from New York came into the show. They went to several vendors and at least one private seller, trying to buy a gun. They were turned away each time.

One private seller went to the show manager and asked if it was legal to sell to them. When he was told no, he returned to the people and said no way. After the man had been turned down by Dark Sun, the woman tried to buy a gun from them.

By that time the police had been notified and they questioned the couple. Apparently there wasn’t enough to charge them, at least yet.

I understand a third New York car came in after the episode and left rather quickly.

Were these Bloombergers or just Carpetbaggers ?….whatever they were, they found out there isn’t a loophole and buying illegal guns is hard in Virginia.

There was an announcement on the PA about this and and the whole place applauded.

April 11th, 2010

After Bloomy sent his goons down to attempt straw purchases the first time, the Virginia AG sent him a letter saying it was not nice & please don't do it again. Well, apparently Bloomy could not take the hint, so Virginia passed a law against coming down from NYC trying this sort of bull hockey (Class 6 felony - 1 year).

These fools were apparently video'd by the venue security cameras but the cops were not able to get enough "evidence" to charge them. Additionally, lack of communication coordinatiuon between the cops & on-site show manager prevented the announcement of the situation so that a perp-walk cordon could be formed before they were escorted off premises.

stay safe.

Stuff like this infuriates me.... what right does that guy have to send people down here to INTENTIONALLY break the law (if that is indeed what happened)? I hope the police decide to press charges.

If they were sent to make straw purchases, does that not constitute conspiracy? Does this not cross state lines and become a Federal crime as well as a a state crime? Would not the person responcible for sending them be culpable? MayI make a reservation at that Gray Bar Hotel in the name of ..........Bloomberg?

Did anyone mention this to AG Cucinelli at the 2A march today?

Yep. Throw 'em in the brig. Preferrably the brig in one of the sunken warships off the VA coast. :)

Absolutely. Btw, you don't need a name and address in order to swear out a warrant - a physical description, especially with pictures, would be sufficient. Also, it is not necessary for the police to take the initiative in charging them. Anyone with personal knowledge of the facts could show up at the magistrate's office and swear out the warrant. Or go to the office of the local Commonwealth's Attorney and get them to open an investigation. Just because the police don't choose to go after them doesn't mean anything.

Is straw purchasing a felony?

It certainly represents a federal crime in this instance.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity to exercise common law citizens arrest.

Yes, and one could if the felony were committed in his presence.

That's what I'm saying.

I have heard that misdemeanors (with the exception of physical violence: simple assault, for example) might not meet the minimum criteria under color of law to detain another citizen...

But I could be mistaken.

A primer on proper procedure for "arrest" and detention of a criminal under common law would be helpful in this type of situation.

There must be a breach of the peace to arrest on a misdemeanor.

I've made Citizens arrests Wylde and can tell you it is something to be avoided if at all possible. There is a tremendous amount of risk as far as legal repercussions if you aren't very careful.

@Peter:

I was thinking breach of peace or general likelihood of harm to others. Simple assault is a misdemeanor, but so is petty larceny.

I agree that it's a gray area, and that's why it should be important, particularly with sheriffs and police departments nationwide being gutted... we need a return to lawful exercise of OUR EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY.

Get a rope!:dude:

Deputize the main dealers at gun shows to make "sting" straw-sales. Maybe even put video cameras with microphones on the ceiling above their tables.

Betcha that after the first arrest, there is a sudden decline in Bloomberg antics.

Perhaps a few of good citizens could volunteer a table of private firarms for sell, and just wait with voice recorders for the dang yankee's to show up. Citizens arrest for felonies is lawful.

This could backfire. Howwould youdetermineif a given buyer was a prohibited person vs an undercover LEO? Your only real recourse is to ask if s/he could pass a background check, and you have no way to verify the response. If the response was "no", and you proceeded with the sale, who'd be arresting whom? If you denied the sale, and the prospect was an undercover ATF agent, you mightget an "attaboy". You might end up selling all of themto legitimate buyers, some of whom might be "yankees" (no apostrophe)before anyBloomie agentstried to buy any.
