My guess is that he was taunting the cops.

That does not justify what they did. However, it does illustrate a principle we can all learn from here: Just because an officer does not legally have the power to abridge your rights does not mean he won't. If you get to cocky with a LEO, you may get a butt-whoopin' from an unscrupulous one. If there is a video device handy, the cop may get into trouble and you might receive compensation. Most likely, though, it will be your word against his--and we have already learned that this particular officer is unscrupulous.

In an altercation with the cops, being right isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I assume that what is being discussed here is the beatings of two UMD students in College Park, MD. after a game with Duke U.

UMD students have an unfortunate reputation for tearing up the neighborhood after major athletic events, win or lose. That's why the riot cops. There was reasonable expectation that a riot would break out, and the locals were sick of geting houses, lawns and cars trashed by mobs of intoxicated kids.

So far, so good....

Butapparently the cops decided to quash any overexuberance before a riot began. Trouble is, in at least two cases they decided to do so without saying boo to the callow youts. They just ganged up and began whaling on them. THEN to cover their butts the cops charged the boys with felony assault on a police officer, later dropping the charge in hopes the boys would feel "lucky" not to be facing a felony.

It did not work out that way because - as the cops ought to have known- , cameras and surveillance are everywhere these days. One of those cameras caught the PG cops dealing out a plainly unprovoked a$$whuppin to one of the boys.

They bruised them up pretty good and one boy got slugged in the head about ten stitches worth.

Oh well, stupidity and brutality go hand in hand. PG is a pretty well-off county, and they will be giving these kids a nice green poultice for their wounds. nd few cops need to be fired and jailed and a few commanders demoted or fired.

This story is actually pretty twisted. The officers actually lied on their reports, not only to clear themselves but also to get McKenna (the victim) charged with serious crimes. The officers here were clearly out for blood, I guess this guy's lucky he wasn't shot instead of just beaten.

All of the officers involved should be fired, that should go without saying. All of the officers involved should face jail time, for the three that did the striking, serious jail time. The message must be sent that this kind of conduct will not be tolerated.

Unfortunately, this county has a history of these kinds of problems (see link below) and with the unions I wouldn't be surprised if it took months to fire these "police officers". Fortunately, the investigation is now being handled by the FBI. Hopefully, since this isn't an "in-house" investigation any more we will see some justice done here.

Neither of the above links worked for me. Apparently, the Fox affiliate who was linked to in the OP has been called to heel by their NWO overlords, and removed the incriminating documentation of their JBT's practicing for "The New Amerikan Century"...

But the Washington Post DOES have this video live, linked off the article detailing the Federal investigation:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2010/04/12/ST2010041204523.html?sid=ST2010041204523

And here is a YouTube video from AP/WJLA-TV with a running commentary, and interviews with McKenna's attorney...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAPwyodTkYA

And breaking news, the Sergeant who wrote up the charges following this beating has been suspended. Although he was not directly involved in the beating (or even on the scene), he was the one who fabricated the trumped up charges. His name has not been released to the press.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/crime-scene/maryland/sergeant-suspended-in-college.html

None of the officers who actually were involved in this brutal attack have been charged or suspended.

In MD, no good deed goes unpunished, and all criminal acts of the government are rewarded...

McKenna suffered a cut on his head requiring eight staples, a concussion, a swollen arm and bruises, according to a report to CNN from private investigator Sharon Weidenfeld, who is working for McKenna's lawyer, Chris Griffiths.

The good news is, however, that the victim, John McKenna, 21 a UMD student, has "lawyered up" and is planning to sue the PG County Police.

Godspeed, Mr. McKenna, and may your pockets be filled at the personal expense of these black-uniformed jack-booted thugs. If a few of the LEA's (and individual LEOs) in the PRM take a BIG hit in the wallet in the Federal Courts, maybe they will start to treat the people of MD less like "subjects" and more like "citizens".

Hopefully, the Federal Courts will bring these rabid curs to heel before they REALLY harm someone badly...

The problem is that when LEAs lose those lawsuits they pay out with our money. Money that should be used for legitimate police service. I know you can't get blood from an under-paid turnip, but I wish these officers could be held personally and financially responsible for their own actions. :cuss:

That is the ENTIRE point of a Federal Civil Rights suit. When you file a Federal CR suit, it sets 2 things in motion:

1) The offending officer is charge as an individual, because he was acting outside the law, and therefore his actions were not part of his "offocial duties" and so technically he wasn't a cop when he did it, he was a citizen, and therefore he in PERSONALLY liable for all damages, and

2) it removes ALL immunity from the officer, regardless of the laws in his state or municipality that are designed to prevent individuals from suing officers or departments.

Don't even waste your time with the local or State courts. They are all in bed with the LEAs, and many states and municipalities have laws that shield officers from even being sued in the first place. If you want to REALLY get under their skin, you need to file Federally, because that removes them from the biased local or State court system, and it completely strips them of any prosecutorial immunity and renders them in the same legal capacity as any other individual citizen.

Knowing your rights + Knowing the law = No tolerance for "color of law"...
