    Im an active duty Marine who recently turned 21. Due to my daily interactions with weapons, I recently began carrying a XD45. I have applied for and received a WA state concealed weapon permit. I intend to travel to PA to visit family and while I realize that PA doesn't recognize a WA permit, I was wondering if there was anything specific i needed to open carry in PA? anybody who can help, it'll be appreciated!

    I would say, yes. although PA and WA may not have reciprocity (I haven't actually checked so I'm taking your word), your WA CCW is not completely wasted.

    You may not carry concealed, but you may open carry with your WA permit.

    Here's what you need to know...

    A person may only open carry, ON FOOT, from home. A person MAY NOT transport a firearm (handgun) for the purpose of OCing upon reaching their destination.

    However... a person with a carry license from any other state may carry in a vehicle...

    18 Pa.C.S. ยง 6106: Firearms not to be carried without a license
    (a) Offense defined.--
    (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), any person who carries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place of abode or fixed place of business, without a valid and lawfully issued license under this chapter commits a felony of the third degree.
    (2) A person who is otherwise eligible to possess a [FN1] valid license under this chapter but carries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place of abode or fixed place of business, without a valid and lawfully issued license and has not committed any other criminal violation commits a misdemeanor of the first degree.
    (b) Exceptions.--The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to:

    <snip>

    (11) Any person while carrying a firearm in any vehicle, which person possesses a valid and lawfully issued license for that firearm which has been issued under the laws of the United States or any other state.

    Welcome to PA!

    ....And Semper Fi! My son is currently stationed at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina, where he and his boys are busy keeping the F/A-18s up and flying.

    Any questions, just ask.
    While many claim to support the right to keep and bear arms, precious few support the practice.
