The Board Walk around Old Faithful (Wyoming Laws Apply at Old Faithful) Start Time: High Noon 4th of July 2010 Open Carry of Firearms (Handgun and/or Rifle and/or Shotgun)

Watch Old Faithful Geyser erupt, make new friends, visit with others with similar interest(s), etc

1. Yellowstone National Park is in 3 States Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Mostly, Wyoming.

2. This is an informal, non-sponsored, and no host individual celebration of the Independence Day - the 4 of July. Each and every person is totally (100%)responsible for themselves including transportation, food, drink, lodging, clothing, medical, dental, etc

3. Weather can be cold and rainy even snowy in Yellowstone National Park on the 4th of July - plan accordingly.

What sort of wear / tear does the high mineral content spewing forth do to the
weapon and accessories. i.e. do we need protection on our protection.:lol:
Now that would be a photo op, 100's people sitting on the walk way cleaning
there guns after the eruption ends.

Last I knew open carry in national parks was illegal but concealed with a permit was legal, can you clear this up.

The Coburn Amendment controls - carry which is legal under state law is OK in National parks now.

I asked a park ranger @ Rocky Mountain National Park about this and was told concealed carry is legal, open carry is not. Was told the same thing at Zion in UT and Mesa Verde National Park by different park rangers and employees.

Guess they need some training on the subject so us subjects will not go to jail :cuss::cuss:

Again, never ask for legal advice from a police officer, etc. The reasons are many.

Folks,

A similar activity was proposed in late March, see the message "A Walk in the Park", 13 messages down on this list.

The Walk In The Park is starting in Jackson in the early AM at the Pancake Breakfast, then on to the Independence Day parade and finally up north to the parks.

At High Noon we will most likely be heading to Grand Teton Park, and then perhaps on to Yellowstone in the afternoon. We plan to be able to discuss details about firearms and open carry with anyone who is curious and asks. We plan to have some general handout literature. This is important, to educate the public in a friendly way, not just confront and startle people.

We have run this by a few officials and are waiting for further response. We have looked at the parks web site information. Everything looks good for this type of activity.

We will circulate a further update and printable flyers in early May, Watch for it.

In the meantime, circulate this concept far and wide, ask folks to spread it beyond this discussion page and get feedback; Who is going to join and where they have spread the word. You are all welcome to start the day early at the Jackson Pancake Breakfast before heading north. You are welcome to come back to Jackson for some evening socialization and to enjoy the fireworks.
