SPREAD FAR AND WIDE:

Mayor "I bought my last election" Bloomberg of New York is now pushing
hard for Congress to destroy gun shows across the country.

Just in case you think the threat isn't serious, here is what is in
store for America if the Mayor gets his way in Congress:

* Details of the sale, such as the type of gun, the SERIAL NUMBER,
and any other information the Attorney General may want must be
provided for guns sold by private sellers

* Any person selling a gun, be it just walking around with a gun, or
having purchased a table to sell a gun, must be registered with the
gun show AT LEAST 30 DAYS BEFORE the show and the gun show must
provide PERSONAL INFORMATION about each private seller to the Attorney
General

* Private sellers must show photo ID to the gun show operator and
sign a log book with personal information

* The feds will now have TRUE GUN REGISTRATION information in a
database - GOODBYE FREEDOM

* If you make a mistake in all of this, you can get up to FIVE YEARS
in prison. The gun show operator also can be put in prison for
paperwork mistakes

* Gun show operators will have to register with the U.S. Attorney
General

* The Attorney General can make up regulations at will for
controlling gun show operators

* The Attorney General can charge a fee, no limit set, for a gun show
operator license

* Gun shows must get permission from the Attorney General 30 days in
advance of any show to be able to have a show

* All sales must go the the National Instant Check System

A barrage of ads and commercials is starting immediately, attempting
to push Congress to pass this legislation!

The full bill can be seen here:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.2324:

Senators Warner and Webb are coming under pressure to support the gun
control measure by the usual suspects. It is CRITICAL that they hear
from us NOW!

-

ACTION ITEM!

We need to contact Senators Webb and Warner and urge them NOT to
support the destruction of our gun rights and must do so NOW!

To send a message to Mark Warner, click here:

For topic, select "Second Amendment Rights"

For Subject, enter "There is NO gun show loophole"

-

To send a message to Jim Webb, click here:

http://webb.senate.gov/contact.cfm

For Subject select "Civil Liberty"

-

Suggested message to both Warner and Webb:

There is NO gun show loophole and I urge you NOT to support any
further infringements on my right to buy, sell and own firearms. The
bills under consideration, HR2324 and S843, will DESTROY gun shows and
will also implement the registration of firearms. History, including
here in America, has shown that registration is followed by
confiscation - none of which can be tolerated.

Criminals get their guns either by stealing them or through straw
purchases - neither of which can be stopped by background checks. A
study done for the U.S. Department of Justice (Firearms Use by
Offenders) in 2006 found that only 0.7% of guns used in crime come
from gun shows.

Make no mistake - these bills are not about reducing crime, but they
are about destroying a major part of our right to keep and bear arms.

These bills cannot be "fixed up" to be made acceptable - they can only
be defeated.

Please let me know how you are going to vote on these bills.

It's a canned response automatically generated by a bot. It just means that your email was received.

I wouldn't take it so personally.;):p

I honestly don't understand why we are contacting senators regarding a house bill that has been assigned to committee.

Yes, it has 98 cosponsor enemies of freedom. But it's in the HOUSE.

Shouldn't we be contacting House members? Keep it in committee, or kill it outright. It should never GET to the Senate.

I must be missing something, as VCDL normally wouldn't be recommending doing something silly.

So I'd take the slap upside the head for being an idiot if someone could 'splain this.

Sure - there is both a House and SENATE version of the bill. The push is at Senators right now by the antis, so that's where we need to push as well.

We'll get around to the House soon.

response sent. Ive had contact with Senator Jim Webb before over his support (actually i think he sponsored) The new Post 911 GI bill which was excellent for most veterans but there were some aspects of it that screwed some army personnel. Anyway yea i made sure to thank him for his gi bill support and urged him to not allow a gun phobic mayor to influence his decision in va (much more politely worded though).

Here's the info I was looking for to personalize my communication:

S.843
Title: Gun Show Background Check Act of 2009
Sponsor: Sen Lautenberg, Frank R. [NJ] (introduced 4/21/2009) Cosponsors (17)

The usual list of antis is on the sponsor list.

I will also be writing Connolly; though he's a sponsor, and a confirmed anti, I refuse to let him think since he doesn't get communications on the issue his constituents are fine with this effort.
