I suspect that lots of ordinary people (you know, people who don't spend their lives telling others how to live) find it refreshing that a public sector company would avoid an opportunity to impose their beliefs on their customers.

Maybe it's because unlike Pete's coffee house, Starbucks unarmed customers know they will be safe, because more than likely there will be someone who is carrying. Survival rates are higher in Starbucks than Pete's.
